Sounds like Cobblers' awls to me.

I could get onboard with Brent finally (and deservedly) getting the arse, but the idea that canny operators would leave a lame duck manager in charge for the better part of 8 months whilst CL places and FA Cups were still to be won boggles the mind.

Tbf, the Mail do at least have some proper sources. These other sites are basically people like me but more desperate.

Browsing a Chelsea forum and their fans(heh) are pretty much saying anywhere but Arsenal for Cech. Would be a massive coup if we could pull this off.

Would it really though? Don't get me wrong, I don't think Arsenal's current crop of keepers are worldbeaters, but I don't buy into the rhetoric going around that they're totally substandard and in dire need of replacement. There's not really enough evidence to support the view that Chesney and, especially, Ospina are categorically not up to task, and I'm not convinced that bringing in someone like Cech (who I rate fairly highly, but by no means do I think he's amazing) would drastically improve the team.

Cech's an upgrade, IMHO.

That said, I was surprised he's only 32 and, as a keeper, probably in his theoretical peak years. I don't think he's the performer he was and would likely only be a short term replacement.

Yeah, I don't really disagree with any of this. He would be an upgrade, but not as substantial a one as some would have us all believe, mainly for the reasons you've stated.

I think we need to upgrade, but I'm starting to get doubts Cech is the one. 33 today, and I know goalkeepers last a lot longer than outfielders, but you are occasionally reminded of why Chelsea were right to bring Courtois back to play in front of him.

Lloris and Leno are supposedly available around the 20m mark as well.

Ospina has been brilliant for ye gooners whenever I've watched this season.
I've enjoyed his performances as well. He's not a Hollywood keeper who's really spectacular or flashy, but he's seemed calmed and assured, and has quietly been very effective from what I have seen of him. Certainly doesn't deserve all of the "he's ****e, bin him off and bring in someone better" flack that he's copped.

Not to be churlish but you got to wonder if getting kneed in the skull has an impact on his aging curve.
Yup. I was ignoring the pachyderm in the vestibule, but I don't think he's ever been as commanding since Hunt (IIRC) cracked his noggin.

Cech's probably benefited from playing with Captain Racist who, for all the manifold and glaring flaws he has as a human being, is a genuinely dominating centre half when it comes to the box.

Should've deffo saved yer Swans' late winner.

He's clearly not ****e and I haven't seen anyone say he is. But I think he was signed to be a number 2 and I wouldn't overhaul that opinion of him based on his decent-but-unspectacular past four months. I'd say Cech would be a pretty good signing.

Feel like Ospina is solid in that he hasn't made any major mistakes. But there's quite a few he could've done better for. A good number two but a way behind yer De Geas or Courtois.
