Not when you had Buttler at the other end and you had just hit a boundary anyway.

Buttler playing it how it should be done, only hit out with the tail but play sensibly while with people who can bat.
But he could only settle because stokes was being the aggressor and setting the tempo.

You look at the way the Windies bowled and the ball was still nipping around despite being 40 overs old. Don't think they would have lasted long as well just sitting around, especially with stokes and buttler whose natural games are to be aggressive. There's one thing a bowler loves, and it's to tie a batsman down on a pitch that is doing plenty.

Epic Jimmy/Broad spell required.

Ali's just looked very off, not backing him to do too well here.

Oh lord it's like listen to an IPL commentator who thinks you should nurdle a single after every boundary and calls it 'sensible batting'.

He'd just hit a short ball for 4. So he charged thinking the bowler would compensate and it didn't work out. It's totally different to the first innings where he's batting normally just picked the wrong shot to the wrong ball, which he will do a fair bit because he's too much ability for his brain to handle, but he'll get better particularly when he's got some responsibility to focus him.
