Hmm if we picked him then at full strength we'd have some tough calls to make. CD must be thinking they won't have doug or milne much and don't fully trust small to stay fit or mathieson to come good. Then again we're tthe hoarders of domestic cricket so...
"If we picked him".....this is an inordinately high calibre bowler we're talking here, presumably much more influential on our tinpot little scene than Wagner has been, if it all went well. Your Plunket attack would be Viljoen, Milne, Dougeh and Wheeler I guess. If you want a spinner to play, then Dougeh has been wanting to give life at No. 6 a try, Wheeler and Milne to probably only get better with the bat at 8 and 9.

meant if we got him. if he signs he plays, unless the "150kph awesomeness" in the article is along the lines of "neil wagner 145kph swings it both ways"

we probably won't have KNB anymore now he's a county man right? if dougeh is available then we might as well bump him up to six or seven. a guy who, all going well, will become a #8 test match bowling allrounder averaging 25-30 should be able to bat a little higher in the shield.

Nah the Stags and KNB aren't on great terms by the sound of it, after his mid-season dropping. Doubt you'd play him as an import.

Yeah these speeds are looking as advertised, but he's only going to spear it into the domestix with some inswing by the looks.

You'll notice Malan has plenty of shared interests and conversation starters with this bloke. He's got every chance.

He reminds me of Marchant De Lange with that action. If the videos are anything to go by he would be a real handful in Aussie but only "good" in Aotearoa and England.

Yeah but I'd hope a inswinging heavy ball at 145 would prove too much for some of the prolific domestic runscorers in recent years tbh....

Not every Afrikaner with a bit of money coming in is huge on the golf, Vimes. Another exaggerated personality stereotype conspiracy not brought to you by Kippax.

Probably a question for Smudge with his journo connections....

Any word or rumour on another A tour this year?

The last 2 A tours were announced with only a few months until they kicked off.

NZC got ICC funding for 3 A tours. They've had 2 so one to go, or did the tour to India and SL count as 2 tours?

I'm desperate for Brownlie to get some A games opening before October ..... so we can make some progress on the opener position before the Oz tour.
I only cover cricket about once a month so my gems are few and far between.

Highveld Lions cricket | Ken Borland

De Villiers added that the move was not to do with quotas but was rather designed to ensure Viljoen was remunerated properly for his ability, with English County Cricket a key target.

“Because of the new quotas, a lot of players will look elsewhere, but Hardus is already in the system and could play for any franchise. But he’s playing in the shadow of others and should have played for South Africa already. There are two fantastic fast bowlers at the top in the Proteas, but there’s no way some of the others who have played are better than Hardus.

“He can’t qualify to play County Cricket, where you get your revenue from, unless he has played for South Africa, and Kyle Abbott, Marchant de Lange and Chris Morris are all ahead of him in line, I know how the selectors operate. So we have an appointment in New Zealand, where he can get serious opportunity with the new ball and qualify for them in four years’ time, when he is 30, and then play County Cricket and earn a million rand a year,” De Villiers said.

While Viljoen’s benefactor stressed that the fast bowler could not afford to wait an iota longer for selection to the Proteas, De Villiers’ own bitterness towards the South African cricket system could now negatively affect a tremendous talent who has just really begun to blossom within the brilliant Lions bowling attack.

Hmm he can bugger off if he wants to use us to further his attempts to make cash. I hope he stays forever trapped behind Southee, Boult, Henry, Bracewell, Milne and whoever else. There's a good chance he'll only get ODIs too tbh.

Yeah when the manager's already mapped out the plan and is talking dollar figures like that, it seems a bit more calculating than with Wagner, doesn't it. Wagner being no real businessman or golfy independent contractor, more of a maniac who integrated into Otago's culture very well.
