because it's not completely different logic? In both cases the batsman is trying to use their body to defend the stumps. Umpires hate that **** because it makes their job hard.
but that's not why umpires hate batsmen padding up in particular to the extent that even marginal lbws are fired

:laugh: The batsman is using his bat to defend the stumps. Oh poor umpires, if it pitches in line and hitting, give him out.

he's not doing it with the intention of his legs blocking the stumps in case he misses the ball though, he's doing it because he wants people to bowl to his strengths.
Yeah but he's intentionally moving into that position, which leaves him cleanly in front of the stumps. Ergo, he's intentionally moving in front of the stumps, which blocks the bowler's target, a strategy which isn't going to be view favourably by umpires.
