i like the current format. one more fielder allowed out might be even better but as it is the captains who are at the front of innovation know they have to go hard for wickets all the way through the innings and it makes for better cricket. teams get rewarded at the death for seeing off the two new balls and the prolonged attack and then it's up to the bowling side to adapt.

and world class players like starc, steyn, southee etc have been effective at the death. death bowliing is still a thing.

this is the perfect situation for chandimal. he usually plays one shot too many but there's no such thing right now.

keep going son.

I tend to think it's the fielding restrictions moreso than the pitches that makes games like this so possible. Teams aren't flying along at 7-8rpo for their whole innings; they've maintaining a good run rate while conserving wickets and then absolutely blasting away at the end because death bowling is so hard with only four out.

This wicket is good to bat on but I think with more balanced fielding restrictions it'd be a 300 par wicket rather than a 340 par one.. and I quite like 300 par games.
I think it's more likely a combination of both. There's absolutely zero in the wicket for bowlers. Nothing. In Sydney, where there's been a bit of rain recently hasn't there? I know the wicket won't provide the mix of seam and spin it used to, especially in one day. But to offer nothing to the bowlers at all is just boring cricket. It offers free runs to the batsmen up to an arbitrarily high 'par' score. Even with an extra fielder out, the batsman could still swing freely from the hip, whether it be across the line or down the ground.

I'm sure the wickets are prepared under a universal directive...I just think those giving the instructions have no idea what's good cricket and what isn't. It's like a long version of 20/20 where the bowler is on a hiding to nothing for 3 hours.

That does mean four more overs of Maxwell, Watson, Clarke, Smith, Finch (lol) or a combination of the aforementioned though. I don't think they're going to get smashed any less tbh.
Clarke to bowl the 42nd plz
