How did the worst chasers in ODI cricket (hyperbole I know) once produce the greatest chase in history?

I reckon they need big head Biff - that man could lead a runchase

I think the lesson for SA here (like for Pakistan in the game against WI) is to win the toss and always bat first. No point putting pressure on self

They aren't the worst.

I remember in the 1999 world cup SA were chasing Pakistan's 213 and were at one point 58/5 in 15 overs or so. They eventually won despite pakistan having shoaib, wasim and saqlain bowling so awesome.
