He was averaging over 50 during the CT but then had a poor slump despite a few tons. But he's got the whole package really. Can be a top order bat, rotate it decently in the middle and go big in the death.

Root was a bit iffy in the beginning with that knick ttoJayawardene a French cut and a scoop in the air but he has been amazing for 95% of the inning. Such terrific cricket shots.

I think it's a case of people remembering what happened to Trescothick and kind of writing him out of their equations. Yet all mental illnesses aren't the same and he's already done more than Marcus by touring.
