Yeah when you list it like that Hurricane it looks so bad. Lots of class in there but the balance is all wrong. Extra sugary icing in at #5 is pretty much asking for Southee, Boult, Steyn, Morkel etc to do the honours.
I don't think you can fix the balance with the australian team. not in my books. They've all but committed to picking both of Faulkner and Maxwell and I personally feels that wrecks the balance a fair bit. In that post you should remove Marsh for Bailey or Watson at 5 but it still feels wrong to me

I don't think the dinner break helped Elliott at all tbh. Looked very nervy before facing up; I can't help but think if he'd faced that ball immediately after Taylor's dismissal (rather than 45 minutes later) he'd have done a far better job.
I agree. I think bundling the Aussies so quickly and then basically having to start an innings twice is a disadvantage. I accept that the Australian bowlers were brilliant later in the innings but this may be something the ICC need to address. Why should any team that bundle a side cheaply be put in a difficult position when batting. I'm not just meaning this game but all World Cup games. Have the break after the first team bats, what does it matter what time of day it is

IMO just stack the bowling. Weakening our batting depth might actually lead to the rest of the batsmen going about things more sensibly. Otherwise break Watson's knees and call up Voges or Shaun Marsh as injury replacement. If you're going to stack batting you might as well use the best options available.

Watson
Finch
Smith
Clarke
Maxwell/Marsh
Faulkner/Marsh
Haddin
Johnson
Starc
Haze
Cummins

Either way it was a great match. Was expecting a one sided contest given all the hype leading up to it.

Indeed just have some buns and cold cuts set aside for lunch - rather than some perfectly timed pasta dish that is al dente

The inconvenience to the chef is the only reason I can fathom for the current state of affairs

What was the average pace Stark was bowling at? Interested to know as everybody keeps referring to his extreme pace this game and the highlights don't show the speed gun

Faulkner is a quality white ball bowler for sure. Watson is clearly the better bat

What would your batting order be...

Finch
Warner
Smith
Clarke
Maxwell
Marsh
Faulkner

Something like that...question mark
Watto has been out of form with the bat for quite a while and is a day-to-day proposition with the ball

It may not be the most balanced lineup but give me people who perform every day of the week

Facts is that Faulkner almost always delivers with ball and bat (arguably the most feared hitter in world cricket) and Watto doesn't so I would punt him tomorrow for James

Up to over 150 but NZ speed guns are known to be "generous"

I think they showed his general pace at around 147kph with the quickest of 151.5kph.

Don't quote me but by memory 145 at slowest but most balls were 148-150

I think Australia need to stop trying to fit every allrounder they have in the team at the expense of cake to icing ratio and the bowling. Because they don't have a proper spinner in favour and you presumably want to pick a wicketkeeper Maxwell and Haddin get the two icing slots by default.

With two gung ho openers, one of whom is icing, you need three cakes in the middle order imo so Bailey comes in.

I went for four proper bowlers since Johnson and Starc can hit but I could see the argument for Forkers being in there at the expense of Haze or Cummins.

Faulkner is arguably one of the 5 best odi players in the world right now

If f they brought him in to replace Watto, then you'd need 20 from Marsh/Maxwell/Forkers

Other teams would dream of that lineup

Anyway, ****ty batting lost this game for Oz not the bowlers
Yeah your batting was worse but if Cummins or Johnson had supported Starc then it'd have been a different result. Our attack was far more rounded, yours was Starc tearing us a new one.

Cummins did his job but it was nothing more than a glorified T20 in the end

Boundaries of 45 metres are under 14s stuff

omg lol we're back to this again

look stop trying to force down the sour grapes and get yourself a good bottle of wine. i used a cheap and nasty eight dollar pino gris for the world cup drinking game today and it combined with the great aussie, kiwi and neutral folks here to make the game even more fantastic to watch than it was.
