the general trend for this tournament is that all the games I have to stop watching at the 35th over end up being incredible, all the ones I watch the whole way through suck

I'm curious because
1) NZ has a similar population and has not had a problem with building a professional level that supports a Test team, and
2) Scotland is a top tier side in rugby, so why not cricket?

Scotland wasn't a member of the ICC until 1994. New Zealand in 1926.

Because rugby was an amateur sport until 1995. We have zero presence in the code that's been professional.
Swap football and rugby and that's basically the standing the respective sports have here.

Well.. exactly. This is why I disagree with those who suggest giving Scotland ICC grants is pointless. They haven't been improving at the rate of Aghanistan, Ireland or Nepal in recent years but they've still been improving, both on the field as an international side and domestically through participation rates. The grassroots base in there for Scotland to develop into a decent international team if the right steps are taken to establish a professional top tier there.
I don't even really think it's pointless to fund them even if they are unlikely to ever be much better than they are now in any rate. The next level down from full member nations is important within itself rather than just as a development program funded to try and develop the next big thing. The ICC has been a hindrance to the associates in many ways over the last few years, but the fact that funding and tournament qualification are still based on merit rather than speculative and subjective long term picks from above is certainly a good thing.

Have you seen Out of the Ashes? It's based around them competing in their first international tournament in Jersey in 2008 and kind of forces you to love them. Mangal, Nabi, Shenwari, Hamid Hassan, Shapoor Zadran and Gulbadin all played, and the latter was at the time a bodybuilder who admitted he didn't really understand cricket.

I'm hopeful because Bangladesh's attack is so bad. And it would be epic for a joke side like Bangladesh to be beaten by an associate.
