IPL Draft Feb 16.

Is sunrisers trying to rebuild the entire side or something?
Frankly they had a crap strategy (that was meant to finish 5th in the table) in the last two auctions. Glad they have improved a bit on buying the right players.

India's 2007 T20 WC hero Joginder Sharma goes unsold, as do dozens of other players.

McClenaghan goes for 300,000 INR to MI, another bargain Kiwi, while Kyle Abbot went for the same price to CSK. However the younger, less experienced Gurinder Sandhu went for 17 million rupees to DD after RR backed out of a bidding contest. Could his Indian ancestry have something to do with it?

RP Singh another notable former-Indian Test quick going unsold. Sudeep Tyagi had a great IPL and a few ODIs for India as a result many years ago; this year he can't find a team.

McClenaghan is a proven ODI performer though.

Perhaps availability had a role in it too. Might be worried about Williamson and the other Kiwis not being available for the whole tournament due to international commitments, + possibly choosing to be loyal to their domestic teams in the Champions League.

Nah that won't happen.

I'd rather take the money into the domestic teams' coffers tbh.

Why would they use Rupees and then use "millions"?? So unintuitive. Lakhs and Crores FTW.
They are using Lakhs and Crores on the IPL site. I'm converting to millions here for the sake of the non-Indian posters.

Iyer went for a whopping 26 million rupees; more than what CSK paid for Mussey or Sunrisers paid for KP.

Even odder was uknown 34 year old spinner Kishan Cariappa going for 24 million rupees to KKR after a bidding war with DD. These people clearly know something we don't.

17 year old Sarfraz Khan was another notable purchase, going for 500,000 rupees to RCB after starting at 100,000. RCB also picked up Milne for 700,000 rupees. Smart buy IMO.\

Couple of other domestic bats and bowlers going for around base price to cap off the morning session.

Ravi Bopara gets bought but Alex Hales doesn't. To quote the Pixies 1997 hit; 'Where is my mind?'

It's outrageous that anyone would sign Bopara over literally anyone.

Turns out the mystery spinner Kishan Cariappa is actually only 20 years old, and has risen to prominence through the Karnataka local T20 league.

Who is KC Cariappa, the mystery spinner snapped up by KKR for Rs2.4 crore - Livemint

From what we know of Cariappa, his bowling action has been likened to similar mystery spinners like Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka and Sunil Narine of the West Indies. His bowling arsenal includes a sharp carrom ball, a back of the hand googly and according to his team-mates, has recently developed an off-spinner
He has also played for Karnataka U-19s. Karnataka are the strongest side in Ranji ATM, and are a pretty difficult team to break in to.

Should be interesting to see him in action, especially given the BCCIs intention on clamping down on suspect actions.
