Good test for Boult remembering we've come to rely on MIlls to go for below 5s when we defend 300+.

Mathews came to New Zealand from my understanding as a great young captain. Safe to say he hasn't looked like it here at all, seems clueless most of the time.

Great start to our world cup for the batting. They were obviously a little nervy, and there is a fair chance these are the most difficult batting conditions we'll get all WC. Everyone contributed. Taylor may have only scored 14 but I don't think it's all doom and gloom there. Looked scratchy but didn't look completely at sea like he has in recent months.

Guptill looked perfectly confident, McCullum had paitence, Williamson only took 15 balls of nerves to turn into Big Daddy Kane, and our lower middle order is the most ideal cake/icing combination you could imagine.

Doesn't help that Sri Lanka's two most experienced players don't treat him like one, and just control things themselves half the time.

You have to feel for him a bit though. Even Kulasekara got no swing this morning. After that he has to rely on the big SL weakness in pace to close out the innings in NZ conditions. In Sri Lanka they're attack would be totally different, he'd have 30+ overs of spin at his disposal. Didn't even get 15 here. I think he should have taken Malinga off sooner in his first spell though and brought on a spinner much sooner. Mendis getting 2 overs is criminal.
