this lalor catch is confusing. i thought it was not out because he didn't step back into play before the completed the catch, but i'm not sure about that, and then he actually juggled it so the first touch happened before his feet came into play but he completed the catch after his feet came back into play. it was given out but i have no idea if that's correct
I thought it was a fair catch at the time because the ball didn't cross the boundary line and Lalor had stepped back into play when he took the catch. At least it looked like that live at the ground.

I think the confusion arose because Lalor threw the ball more or less straight up rather than clearly forward, so I think that the Umpires needed to decide whether the second catch was taken level with the boundary rope, or a foot inside play. It really was that close.

Lalor catch claims many caught short by Laws | cricket.com.au
Well looks like I'm in the same dumb **** boat with him cause I was with him all the way

I feel better knowing the umpires technically made the right decision.

Absolutely ******** rule though tbh. As a fielder you can run wherever you want over the boundary, 20 rows back if you want, and keep tapping it back into the field of play and eventually take the catch if you want. Imagine how **** would hit the fan if that happens in the world cup, MS Dhoni hits a massive six but smartass Glenn Maxwell pulls that and technically it's out. Now more players will be aware and the rule won't last long because some farcical situations are going to start occurring.

Yup, the rule is ridiculous, basically made to let more "OMG AMAZING" catches be taken, but the rule makes little sense. It's like letting goals through from outside the boundary in AFL, just coz they look good.

Yep and I'm fine with that. But everyone should know the rule.

Bring back the glory days of being able to lean on the fence and take a catch.
