***Official**** Sri Lanka in New Zealand 2014/2015

U19 Captain
Incredible performance given our position when Jimmy Neesham was dismissed on day 3. Unbelievable comeback from what looked like a completely hopeless position.

Got to hand it to Baz, I thought the declaration was a bad one but he knew better.
No question. I still don't believe any declaration is necessarily good or bad, in the way that if Sangakkara pumps another 200, or our bowlers dish up a pile of custard, it doesn't make it any better in isolation than if Sanga gets a questionably questionable decision (stressing I thought it was out) or we perform well like today.

What were the odds when Jimmy went in the second dig, anyone?

But this one has worked out,so fair play.

$15 is the highest I saw them go out to.

I was not a fan of the declaration and I won't change my opinion of it after the fact but you can certainly put Karunaratne's wicket down to the declaration, and possibly Sanga's too.

Nor should you. It doesn't change whether it's a good declaration or not - at least not in my eyes. By that token, a declaration 194 runs early would've been a good one, as we'd have won (in theory).

I liked the declaration on the basis of how many overs it gave us with the second new ball. I don't think we really ever gave Sri lanka a chance at the match, yes they could have won but it was incredibly unlikely. Not many players in the Sri Lankan team who score fast enough to put that sort of declaration under pressure if they went into lunch none down.

Is it just me or does this contradict itself?

Rationally, I wasn't a fan of the declaration. Irrationally, it was fantastic. It was a display of almost arrogant confidence that we haven't seen from a NZ side in many years, perhaps ever. I can see why BMac did it.

I remember when they were talking about the ICC Test Cricket Champs that were at one point going to be in June this year. That was going to be down to the "current top 4" test teams as per the ICC Rankings at the time. I thought "no way we could get to the top 4 by 2015". We have just gone to 5th. As at Apr 30 there is a rankings refresh, and the games that will drop off for us are 2 one offs against Zim (hardly get us any rankings points), and a 1-0 series loss to SA. So it wouldn't surprise me if as of Apr 30 we do in fact go up to 4th spot. Just a great climb from where we were a couple of years ago. Feel as though SA are the best team in the world, then it's a number of teams that could lay claim to being number 2, and we're one of them.

Probably didn't explain it as well as I'd like. What I was trying to articulate is that the good declaration=win bad declaration=lose or draw doesn't stand up for me. If we'd declared 194 runs earlier, all and sundry would've said holy **** what a poor decision. But we'd have won (again in theory) which owes more to poor batting and good bowling than a right or wrong captaincy decision. So when I say it would've been a good one, I should've said 'good'

It ****s me a bit given examples like Steve Smith in the MCG. Absolutely no way in the world a guy in his second Test as captain, with a series win secured even with a draw, on a flat one with plenty of runs in it, could've declared at any other time for mine. But his side didn't win, and he copped a bit over here - which I thought was absolutely ridiculous.

New Zealand started the second innings 135 runs behind and won the match by 196, meaning a turnover of 331 after the teams second innings. Anyone know the largest turnovers?
