Yea I've said it before that India should play 5 bowlers at all times because the bowlers run out of gas. But thats only a partial solution to the bowling issues. The plans they bowl with are horrendous, and MSD's captaincy is uninspired.

Until we get some change in leadership, the benefit of 5 bowlers wont be greater than the benefit of a proper number 6 batsman.

Because the situation demand a proper innings from someone who could bat properly and long. Not someone who's going to go in, have a slog and come off occasionally. How the specialist batsman performed is neither here nor there to the point about what balance you want and what you want your six to do.

I don't really believe that there's no one capable of doing a good job at six btw. There's too much talent in that four and five.
So far in all the test matches India have played a number 6 batsmen the highest score has been 72, If you really want a "proper" batsmen then you move Ashwin to 6 and have the all-rounder at 8. Most other teams have 4 bowlers + all rounder, India is the only team that doesn't and we've missed out on winning test matches because of it.

Exactly.

ANd a proper specialist no.6 is so necessary for us right now because our tail is absolutely horrible.

Nah disagree. Just pick your four best bowlers unless it's a madly spinning deck where you'll have an edge over a lot of countries. Then stick with them and have a captain who actually consults them about their fields and plans. Genuinely don't think you can afford to be a batsman short in non SC conditions.

Australia always plays a batsman light in the SC and goes with an extra bowling "all rounder". It's ****. It doesn't work. Whenever they do it I always know we won't win.
