Yeah I agree. It was important to prevent a collapse after the two wickets, but just trying to survive isn't going to work. Only scoring 50 runs in a session gives NZ all the time in the world to get these last 8 wickets. They need to attack and force McCullum to change his plans.Gotta try and take the game to the kiwis a little bit I feel, doesn't look like either of these two will survive the new ball watching them bat that session
Hold on I'll just link him to CWSmithy the reason for it is Boult will get the new ball in 10 or so overs. So Baz is giving him 45 minutes to catch his breath and come in fresh.
It is absolutely no different to what England and Australia do at home. As per Hurricane's example below, Gary Pratt was hardly experienced in fielding in front of a full house at Trent Bridge when he ran out Ponting.Even an established first class cricketer is gonna be ****ting their pants being on the field in front of 10000 people for the first time in their life. The substitute fielder should be a player who's played in front of a crowd before and isn't going to have first time jitters. It's arrogant to use the position to "give him some experience" when there's a very real chance of that player influencing the game.
Gary Pratt. Someone who was never going to be troubling the international scorers in any other way. Do you know that McConchie isn't a good fielder? I've no idea tbh - maybe he has a pretty good reputation at Canterbury. Also other teams usually pick some gun fieldsmen - like the guy who ran out ponting in the ashes many years ago.
