Almost like Burns lost concentration with TPC having more of the strike for a bit. Need Ashes Rad here.

I think greeting the new batsmen in with a bumper is all an elaborate ruse so that they can york Lyon out first ball.

The reason why Smith's shuffle across works is because his bat comes down really straight and while he does look like he's falling over when he plays that odd checked leg glance and his legs splay out a bit, his head is still almost right over the ball. There's just no point targeting his pads if he can do that because the dude just doesn't lose focus and concentration often enough to lazily play across the line and miss one.

Now I might be talking out my ass here but I really do think that's the reason.

Realize Haddin has had **** phases in his career but I didn't know he averaged 33. Thought he averaged about five runs higher for some reason.

Has a very still head the whole way through his shots. So he is balanced when he needs to be during the shot.

Smith's real test with the bat would come when he is out of form. When you are short of runs and confidence the head might not remain still or in line with the ball. All players with good technique struggled at some point. It would be interesting to see how Smith comes out of it when it eventually happens in the future.

HS 22 since the Ashes. Averaging 15 this year doesn't help I'm sure.
