We need a plan to get rid of Smith. Hope they are working on that.
I don't like to spend a lot of time watching Smith - but when I do watch him he is walking across his stumps something fierce. This means if you bowl at off stump he will clip you through midwicket, (or at least middle and off stump anyway). It makes finding a line to bowl to him difficult.

I would just pack the leg side and try to ping him lbw.

Back to basic from the seamers would help. Try to get him in the slips if he is in early enough. Otherwise try some disciplined 4 th stump bowling to an offside field. Test his off stump patience. This does assume you have seamers who can work in tandem and not gift 4 balls every over. Or at least only occaisionally err in length and not in both line and length.

Tbh I don't think you have the bowlers to do that. So best hope for early wickets and a random jaffa with the new ball.

Bhuvi batting in the nets according to cricinfo and been bowling while in Brisbane. Should be having a bowling net to test his fitness today. If Melbourne is green and weather overcast I can see Bhuvi making himself available. If he is fit who does he come in for: Rohit, Aaron, Umesh or Ishant?

Aaron obviously. Hasn't done anything worthwhile this series.

Easily Aaron. Ishant / Umesh / Bhuvi makes for a reasonable attack actually, all 3 different type of bowlers.

Maxwell is good fun, the series is pretty much won so may as well entertain the neutrals, pick him, tell him to bat without a care in the world. India are toilet against spin, so if he was to fail with the bat he will still probably get a few wickets like he did last time he played against them in a test. :)

nah i'd say it would be henriques if they wanted another all rounder, no way is our batting strong enough to carry a bowling all rounder
reminder that the only two people who rate Daniel Christian are Rod Marsh and Darren Lehmann and Christian has fluked some runs this season. Be afraid

Anyway Watson at 6 is good. Although I think he'll still play at 3 and Burns will debut at 6.

It'd very unlikely India can win 2 consecutive tests in Australia at the moment. The team that were in Australia in 2007 was proper gun and they only managed one win. Have a look at the betting odds they are 22/1 or so to draw the series for a reason.I'd like them to get close as it would make for good test cricket, but I am very doubtful like everyone who has followed their overseas tours in the last 12 months.

No. How about he goes and earns a spot in FC. A disgrace he has been capped.

I wouldn't pick him, but as a neutral he is good fun to watch. To be fair his first class record is decent enough, much worse players have played test cricket than him. He is no worse than James Faulkner or Daniel bloody Christian at least. :D

2 tests of not being totally horrible is the limit of what we can achieve overseas the moment. With Harris back for the third test, Johnson back in form, Hazelwood finding his feet on debut, I can see us getting rolled over here like in England.

Weirdly enough he did. Averages 40 from 31 matches with 4 tons.

Needs more FC matches before I consider him capable of tests, but I don't think he's horrible like many people in australia do currently. Just need to get a brain with his shot selection as well as some application, then maybe his natural batting talent can come through. Certainly will never be a number 3, but hey even he would probably tell you that.

Hmm was not aware of those figures. But still, there are many, many others way better than Maxwell. In any case, the justification that the series is won (when it isn't technically) and that a player should be added to "entertain the neutrals" is .... (for lack of a better word) in my opinion.
