Number 11 smoking our "best bowler".
Tailenders hitting around the best bowler in the lineup happens far more than anyone would admit. If this was Wagner you'd be jumping around saying he took two key top order wickets and is just being taken for cheap runs by a slogging tailender. Be fair. Sodhi's been genuinely good.

Momentum is fully with Pakistan now, reckon NZ will crumble under pressure and even a hint of good bowling will see them rolled out for ~200-250.

Wagner wouldn't bowl dirty great full tosses at #11.

It's like I said last game, Sodhi has bowled out of his skin compared to normal... but it's still only "reasonable" for what you'd expect from a spinner in these conditions. His best performances still aren't good enough to state that we should be selecting him. He's getting better, sure. But as we've just seen with Rabat, he doesn't really have the ability to tear through sides, he takes wickets through attrition rather than gameplan.

You're asking a lot of him, especially given the alternatives really aren't that flash and this is one of his first tours in these kinds of conditions

Well sure, I'm asking a lot of "Sodhi" - but if you're asking me, asking a test level spinner to be able to contribute better than 46 per wicket (which also happens to be one of his best performances) isn't asking much in conditions that suit him against a team that has played the bulk of their innings under pressure.

What a disaster

Congrats to Sarfraz on a match-turning innings, and yes I fully expect us to collapse for 150 now and lose.

So you're dropping Craig or Sodhi for Wagner?

Southee has dished up his fair share. Wagner would too.
The easiest point to ask yourself is if you think Wagner would bowl any worse than Sodhi or Craig has. And the answer to that if you have any objectivity is "No, Wagner would bowl much better"

I know Craig was unlucky with a stumping and a dropped catch on day 1 in Abu Dhabi, but he's taken one wicket at 271 in 3 innings in the UAE.

Please, spare us the conjecture on Sodhi bowling out of his skin. Once/if he's reverted to his normal self, then you can go ahead and bag him, but you don't have a clue whether he has improved vs having a good game.

I think most NZ fans would take a reasonable performance from a spinner 10 games out of 10. He was never selected to tear apart sides, because in reality only really classy spinners do that. Attritional wickets is exactly what he was picked for, and this pitch hasn't broken up enough for average spinners to take bags against good players of spin. Southee and Boult with their tails out, failed to break this partnership, so its not as if you can bag Sodhi for that either.

I suppose to take a more positive view, it will be a good test to see how we recover from this setback. Can we construct an innings? Can someone other than Latham score runs?

Expect McCullum will come out and play like he did first innings, with the idea that's it's still a dash at a distant possibility of a win. After that everyone should bat normally i.e. 2.5 per over, and try to accumulate.
