New Zealand actually had a team plan to deal with the paddle or scoop down the leg side. Their plan had the keeper moving to the leg side and first slip moving behind the stumps. So basically the keeper and slips all move across together as soon as the batsman shapes to play the shot. That gets the personnel in place faster than having first slip move all the way over to leg.
Did they ever employ the tactic in a game and ever have success with it?

I reckon it's an awesome idea myself. The only problem I can see with the keeper moving over to leg stump is that he'd have to move back as well across otherwise he'd be too close.

They used it in a game. My memory is a little vague as to the success.

I need Kippax to turn up and post a video of it.

EDIT: They got Dravid with it. Here it is:

Yeah that's some good cricket. Very different thing to say square leg racing into leg gully as the bowler runs in. One is responding to a batsman making a shot, the other is just trying to con him that there's no fielder there.

Good work by the ICC to clear it up and make it clearly legal to move in response to a batsman getting in place to play a paddle.

Is this game being broadcast live anywhere?

Meanwhile, Pakistan have apparently named a player who's only played one professional game before....5 years ago, scoring a pair and not bowling. WTF? Surely CricInfo goofed.

SO'K wins the spin off, so he and Lyon to play, unsurprisingly. Sidds, MJ and Marsh is a fair bit of bowling without losing much batting. I think in conditions as hot as these bowling options can't be under sold. Everyone has a big workload really.
Also looking for a Dean Jones style innings of fighting through the pain. We'll see, but TPC in good form is ominous. His batting is going strength to strength

Your just jealous that Siddle buys his bananas elsewhere.

Great effort from SoK, and pretty shameful that he's been inexplicably denied such an opportunity for the last few years

Looking like:

Warner
Rogers
Doolan (doesn't deserved to be dropped for Phil Hughes who has had so so many chances)
Clarke
Smith
Marsh
Haddin
Johnson
SoK
Siddle
Lyon

That is the 10th red ball innings where Lyon and O'Keefe have bowled together. SOK has the better figures in 8 of them and in one of the two where Lyon got the better figures SOK was only given 1 over.

I like Nafe and think he's been dropped unfairly both in India and England, but if SOK gets some results and backs it up with some runs he could be under a bit of pressure come the home series.

Nath always gets absolutely pumped at all levels that aren't International cricket though. Really is one hilarious aspect of his career.

Yeah, it's genuinely strange. I don't think anybody can explain why it happens, tbh, but it certainly does.

Nathan Lyon in Tests:
Matches: 33
Wickets: 112
Average: 32.99
Strike Rate: 65.6
5WI: 5
WPM: 3.39

Nathan Lyon in non-Test FC cricket:
Matches: 27
Wickets: 64
Average: 47.20
Strike Rate: 87.18
5WI: 0
WPM: 2.37

Let's call it the uselessness of the SA Redbacks and be done with it
