Wow, hell of a relief that Jimmy got let off.......gotta be honest I was fearing the worse. Topped off a great week for England though.

Still no detail of what actually happened though so it's pretty pointless for any of us to be speculating.

India in England 2014 : India dismay at James Anderson verdict | Cricket News | England v India - Investec Test Series | ESPN Cricinfo

I wonder if this judgement will be made public? Would be interesting to hear each sides stories of events.

Anyways, massive plus for us in terms of this series.
Especially for the next test. Maybe less so at the Oval. But glad he's available, obviously.

As for the verdict, possibly not proven rather than not guilty in the absence of any independent evidence.

It is my understanding that Harbhajan said "Teri Maa Ki" (which basically means "Your mother's ......., the blank usually filled with "******", which is supposed to be understood even with an incomplete use of the phrase). The phrase is used in cases of anger, bullying, and redemption. Symonds heard this, quite understandably, as Monkey.

It's usage in parts of North India where Harbhajan comes from is very much the equivalent of "**** off".

Now, this may not be true, but this has been the account I have heard from my friends in the Indian media.
I know what he and St Sachin of Selective Deafness allege he said mate.

The ODI series between the A-Teams down under should have been televised. Missed the final . Rarely get to see such matches anyway. Would have been fun to watch Rishi Dhawan and others.

Thinking about that, and though I know it's never going to happen, I think this should be India's side for the next WC (as of now):

Dhawan
Pujara/Rohit

Kohli
Rahane
Dhoni
Naman Ojha

Rishi Dhawan
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Whomever

Raina will be ****ty in those conditions. Naman Ojha and Rishi Dhawan will be great additions :)

But you don't buy it?
No, I never did. But that doesn't mean he should have been convicted when it was one person's word against another. Tendulkar sullied his reputation in that whole sordid affair IMO, as did the idiotic NZ judge who insisted on having a full hearing when the parties had already reached an agreement as to the charge and penalty.

He was the biggest grandstander of them all.

Oh please. I cant stand the victim blaming. I completely believe Symonds. There had been atrocious racism directed at him in india by some despicable racist morons who would do monkey chants. And we know harbhajan is a **** and i have no doubt he channeled the same disgusting thoughts. He should have been banned for a long time.

Edit: not saying you're doing this - but I hated the discussion at the time. Pissed me off to no end.

Isn't it a bit strange that a fluent speaking Harbhajan would cuss a non-punjabi speaking Symonds like that?

Actually, knowing Harbhajan (loose usage of the term "knowing", but still), he is far more likely to have said "Teri Maa Ki" because that is something that some Punjabis say all the time (An offensive generalization which can be surprisingly accurate).

But this is my last post on this topic. This is no the place for it. And I don't really have any feelings on this subject whatsoever.

I'm inclined to agree with you but the basic argument seems to be "Harbhajan 's a **** and I wouldn't put it past him therefore Symonds is right" Pretty weak.

The real thing that pissed most people off was Tendulkar's testimony.

I think some people get a kick from sledging in a foreign language that the batsman can't understand.
It happens in Tennis quite a lot, and then the offender finds out the opponent or Ump understands, multi-lingual lot tennis players.

The cross-examination was intense and aggressive, say those present, and began with the BCCI counsel addressing Anderson using some of the swear words allegedly used by the player, catching him by surprise.
LOL. Reading the article on Cricinfo it seems as if Anderson accepted everything and still got away.
