I hope Moeen can make a mark as a bat, as his overs added to Root/Boppa should be enough for the 5th bowler.
Yep, certainly would be nice to have a few options. My ODI side with a rested Broad-Jimmeh.

Hales
Cook
Ali
Morgan
Root
Buttler
Bop
Willey
Plunkett
Tredwell
Rankin

With the likes of Jordan, Parry, Gurney and Finn in consideration. I think they could all slot in as direct replacements in that line-up. In the end a few of 'em will be injured, no doubt it'll all depend on that

Didn't people say that there was video evidence? I find it hard to believe that Jadeja simply made up an altercation, but proof is proof and I suppose there wasn't any. If Anderson pushes you, and you have a bat, next time defend yourself ffs. Or shut up.

See I just have a philosophical difference to most when it comes to ODIs. I don't think trying to fudge the fifth bowler with several part-time options bowling a few really works overall.

I prefer having five proper bowlers in most circumstances -- they don't have to be the five best bowlers available, or even five good bowlers, but I think you need to set out having five guys you'd be comfortable with bowling ten overs more often than not. Your sixth and seventh bowlers should come into it when one of your five is having a bad day. This is even more important to a team like England IMO whose batsmen consistently make par scores rather than having great variance and the ability to risk a low total for the chance at a really high one.

I think where this theory gets misinterpreted sometimes is in people assuming I mean five Test/FC bowlers. Bopara is quite a decent ODI bowler to the point where I'd be happy to pencil him in for ten overs in a lot of conditions. India went through a period where this applied to Yuvraj, the West Indies did it with Gayle and later Samuels, New Zealand did it with Styris, etc etc. There are lots of bowlers who are part-timers in Tests or FC cricket who I'd consider full time bowling options in ODIs, but I do think there's a minimum requirement that usually can't be passed over just by having lots of different bowlers just below it.

Most importantly to the point I was making originally, I think a lot of these bowlers are frontline ODI bowlers only in certain conditions. The worry for me is that Bopara won't cut it as a genuine fifth bowler in Oceania, although to be fair he has a decent record there in the eight games he's bowled in.

Yeah I think Moeen has shown he is more than a part timer and can do a job in ODIs as well for at least 5 overs if not more.

Root (if he plays) would be the 6th ICE type bowler.

I've been a big supporter of Moeen's bowling since before he was even selected, but I can't think of anything that would suit his bowling less than ODIs in Australia and New Zealand.

I'd go Finn for Rankin and Jordan for Plunkett, Boyd's not bowled that well in white ball cricket this year, although has started the 50 over better than the T20.

Really? He doesn't rely on turn and bowls pretty fast/flat. About all a spinner can do in Aus isn't it?

Gee you must have to have a pretty strong disliking of ODI cricket if you want our two best best bowlers (assuming Finn wont be back to his best) to retire six months before the World Cup. I know it's accepted that tests > ODI's on CW, but jesus.

They don't even have to play most of those warm ups (and I doubt they'll play much in SL given the different conditions) but I'm personally really happy we're finally getting some good one day cricket in before a World Cup. Will be crucial for finding a successful team balance, top six, 3rd seamer and potential second spinner.
Allright, allright they can play in the sodding WC, for all the good it will do us.

I gave up on the WC 2015 for England a while back. I've moved onto planning 2019. Just about got my 15 man squad pencilled in.

You could have asked it about Ishant anywhere, tbf.

I'd have Ashwin in the side, don't get me wrong. But I don see him as a panacea, especially away from home.

Some muppet on here during day five of the test said Ashwin had the potential to be the greatest all rounder of all time ffs.

You're not kidding. The one-day schedule looks massive: 7 in SL, a triangular tournament in Aus and then the WC. All this before the tour of the WI and the English summer tests against NZ and Aus. If we want Broad and Anderson in any sort of shape next summer, we should be calling time on their oneday careers.
I'll be amazed if Anderson doesn't call it a day in the shorter formats once the World Cup's over.

Yeah for sure. I imagine Broad will want to keep going given he will in theory be young enough to play the home WC in 2019. No way do I see him lasting until then mind.

Wow, hell of a relief that Jimmy got let off.......gotta be honest I was fearing the worse. Topped off a great week for England though.

Still no detail of what actually happened though so it's pretty pointless for any of us to be speculating.

A detailed judgement is yet to be delivered
India in England 2014 : India dismay at James Anderson verdict | Cricket News | England v India - Investec Test Series | ESPN Cricinfo

I wonder if this judgement will be made public? Would be interesting to hear each sides stories of events.

Anyways, massive plus for us in terms of this series.
