Ah ****, thanks for pointing out Maximas, quite stupid of me.

Anyways, all I have to do is quote that post when the Pakistan series comes.

I think it'll be madness if SL doesn't pick Mendis in the side for the game. Whether the wicket is flat or not, there will be little chance of winning if they pick a pace bowler in place of Eranga. In the last game at this venue, the spinners picked a total of 13 wickets, while the pacers took 6 wicket(SL pace bowlers managed a total of 1 wicket for the game). I think Mathews can bowl a bit more and look to attack with 3 spinners.

For good reason, we really missed having a second pace bowler in the last test. Lets not pretend Matthews can play as a second seamer - that's silly, with his history of injuries and his record he is a fourth seamer overseas and a third seamer at home, nothing more, he's the kind of guy that ought to bowl about 10 overs out of every 90 the team bowls. Loading the team with spinners won't help either, the saffers don't have that much of a problem with spin - particularly when the wicket is flat like it is at SSC, a fast bowler with an aggressive mindset such as Prasad will be of much more use.
Its worth taking risk for one match. And its not like Mathews will bowl 50 overs for the game, he will just have to bowl a few overs with the new ball and let the three spin bowlers do their job. Or maybe, he can bowl less as he normally does and let the spinners attack right from the start along with Lakmal, that can be effective.

I really don't see a pace bowler creating huge problems for the SA batsmen on such pitches. With the spinners, there is a better chance.

It has to be a pace bowler. If SL have a spinner better than Herath or Perera, fine, play him instead of one of those two.

Sitting on the sidelines isn't what turned Eranga and Lakmal into decent bowlers. Give Vaas time with the substitute pacer in a Test match situation. You guys are going to need him for the NZ tour.

God I hope Lakmal and Mendis play and get absolutely destroyed so we can stop pretending they're test match bowlers.

Mendis is rubbish, and I'm not going to bother making that entire argument again. Not a Test bowler -- never has been (debut aside), never will be.

Lakmal, on the other hand, is also rubbish -- but far more endearingly so. Phlegm's hatred of him reaching Dan-and-Vijay or Blocky-and-Sodhi proportions IMO.

I reckon it's just like Jono said the other day -- Phlegm really doesn't rate the guy but sees other people do, and hence has become so violently anti-Lakmal to restore 'balance' for the injustices of the world.

Well, that and a Napoleon complex.

I don't rate him so much as being open to the fact that he bowled well in the first test and bowled well in Pakistan.

Not a good thing Sanga is out first ball though. Steyn is about to destroy another test by the looks of it.

I just keep replying to people who think he's good.

I cbf with restoring balance. I prefer Ballance.
