All good Adders, generally don't find too many people whinging about doctoring too often on here in any case.

Even during the English Ashes, the people crying about the English pitches tended to be the general media, not CWers.

Yeah, this idea that England have seaming pitches really is silly. First Test-Match midway though June, will probably help swing. Yet Lords can give some spin, like last year, so can Headingley. Oval and OT best for spinners generally though.

England in general, so much better for spin than it used to be, unless the weather is horrible.
It is still biased towards fast bowlers rather than spin tho...all of the wickets mentioned will favour the quicks for the first three days at least. Our problem as Grecian says, is dealing with the swing AND the extra bounce than what we are used to..

It's certainly the bounce that's the key difference. There is convential swing in Sri Lanka, especially in the early season, because of the humidity.

grecian is right to point out that there just aren't Test pitches here that seam around like a second division county surface any more, even at Headingley.

They didn't seem to have any problems during their time.

Murali 48 wickets @ 19.2 in England. 20.7 in SL vs England.
Warne 129 wickets @ 21.94 in England. 25.81 in Australia vs England.

A lot of the time in England whilst there is something in the wicket for the spinners there generally is a lot more in the wickets for the seamers. Especially at the start of the summer.

Was more or less what I thought as well.

Yes, odd comment from Migara, particularly with some of the pitches at the Oval, Murali bowled on.

Gonna be interesting. England's side is remarkably unsettled, and Sri Lanka while improving still don't feel like good tourists. I'll say England win, but I have NFI how convincingly.

not sure he was being particularly serious but I couldn't resist looking at the stats.

Sounds like the ODI squad is named later (maybe just for Scotland but maybe Sl series as well). Should be interesting. Broad surely will miss it all and be ready for the tests. Bresnan only just back playing second team cricket so I dunno if they'll go with him. Might get a Vince or Hales. Could do with a second spinner. Can't see Moeen fitting into the team - or I don't think he should be selected. There are better top order options and his spin bowling was under utilised in WI. Tredwell dropped from Kent to work on his four day bowling - straight back into t20 and odi cricket? Wonder if Samit has a chance of a recall or maybe a Liam Dawson gamble (which just about says it all about the spin bowling options of the country). Dawson a good fielder, improving spinner and at least is experienced at batting in the lower middle order. Ansari will hopefully be the man but not for a few years. Possibly won't pick anyone apart from Tredwell. Still they'll want a second option for the world cup.

All the planing now has to be towards the world cup which is less than a year away. Still you can't just make good players appear. They've lost Trott, KP, Swann and Finn from potentially their best team going into the world cup. 4 very good players(Finn may still make it).

I have to say it was a huge surprise not to see him included squad also? yes I know he is a T20 specialist however he still seems like a handy 50 over player too...I have to be honest and say I hadn't rated him before but after seeing him recently, I can see I was wrong..

Eranga replaces Thisara in the ODI squad for the Ireland matches due to visa processing issues, will be a good opportunity for him to get himself going early in the tour

I think having Eranga instead if Thisara is a good move. He, Lakmal and Prasad all three has to be groomed for WC 2015. Thisara Perera is going to get a hammering on Aussie pitches which will lack sideways movement. Eranga cand moce it on any surface, Lakmal can swing it and Prasad is pacy enough to trouble batsman. We need two genuine fast bowlers in Australia. Malinga is not a classical hit the pitch bowler, and Kulasekara bowls only line and length. One of above three will nicely fir in to the team as the opening bowler allowing Malinga to be used as an impact bowler. Mathews mostly will bowl stop gap overs with Dilshan.
