England squad discussion

I was all for Carroll a couple of months ago and I still think there is some merit to the idea but I would probably just go for Rooney, Sturridge, Rodriguez and Welbeck now. I suppose there could still be room for Lambert or Carroll.
I'm sort of assuming they'll want 4 strikers, not including Rodriguez. In the past they've usually taken 5. I wouldn't mind if he just took 3 and turned to a 3-man midfield if two got injured.

Crouch has a strong case. I just think he's too much of a target man. If he plays, there'll be hoofball, and that doesn't play to the strengths of the players that are actually good. Lambert's a better fit unless they're going to pick Kevin Nolan. The goals have dried up but he's still playing well, 3rd most assists in the league this season.

Carroll on his beat day is better than Crouch for me, but they are so few and far between I'd agree Crouch is the better player

Yeah I think that's fair. Carroll still has some potential whereas we all know how good Crouch is/was.

They're pretty average strikers, a few great goals between them but poor goalscoring records overall. The only reason for Hodgson to give either game time is that if he doesn't then when England lose, The Sun will pin it on him for "not bringing a Plan B".

Rodriguez has an ACL, so take him out of your equations, he was an outside shot, but could have done well.

Lets throw Harry Kane in for a laugh.

Mainly because getkaneontheplane, is a great campaign.

I've done my squad with Sky, I'm hoping this is a reality TV type-thing and I'm picking the side for real, based on votes.

I must admit it's rather evaporated my slight optimism, 1 decentish 'Keeper in the country, no good right-backs two decent centre-halves, I've picked Caulker FFS. It also makes me shudder that actually Phil Jones (for his ability to be **** in many positions, we always have one of these at a WC, it's a great tradition), and possibly Smalling will almost certainly go. Depressing.

Noble robbed OBVS because he's not in the options.

Yeah, Jones is a cert. Found picking my midfield was quite tough though. Few decent options who probably won't make it.

Luke Shaw is now the most overrated player in the country IMHO.

I've got 22 but literally could not give less of a **** who to take as my final player. It'd be one of either Walker/Flanagan or Barry/Carrick/Lampard I guess. #inspiring

I would take Barry tbh. Hopefully he wouldn't have to play, but he's had a good season and would be decent cover/useful player to have in the squad.

I too wouldn't bother taking Luke Shaw. Can't see an argument for taking him over Kieran Gibbs. Would rather have Flanagan instead of Shaw actually, as he could double up as cover at RB.

Can't believe Phil Jones has as many votes as he does on this. Bloody hell.

Edit: And what is with everyone picking Ben Foster? ****ing hell.

He's pretty incredible considering he's 18. His current ability is definitely way overrated though.
Well the reason why so many of us want him in the squad, is twofold, one we don't want Cashley, and two with Baines being the certain number 3, it's great experience for the young un.

Overrated, as I often say isn't my fave word.

Admittedly I haven't seen a lot of Shaw, but I'd be very surprised if he was better than Kieran Gibbs. Think Gibbs has been really hard done by with his England opportunities. It obviously doesn't help that he plays where England are arguably at their strongest, but still. Just wish he would stay fit. :(

He's not and he's still not better than Ashley Cole IMHO. Just flavour of the month. Callum Chambers is as impressive.

Best thing about Shaw at the moment is his athleticism and engine imo. For someone of his age he's extremely strong.

Yeah I have not seen all that much of him and I doubt that many of us on here have, Southampton not on TV an awful lot are they?

Some people may be able to make judgments about a player after seeing him play once but I certainly can't. Honestly have no idea how good he is.

Adam Forshaw is really ****ing good though.
