Yeah, they're technically not committing an offence, but it's a bit murky. I'm sure somebody will raise "spirit of the game" rubbish shortly, probably Kepler.

Intentionally throwing the ball into the square for the purpose of changing the condition of the ball is probably against the laws of the game.


It is almost impossible to prosecute though.
