why was this comical?
Because Boult had to run in from the boundary to take the catch and his arms were flailing as if he was signalling semaphore. At no point did he look like taking the catch and it was a miracle that he did. As I said at the time (I think) "Boult looked like a clown trying to save a baby falling from a burning building."

Sadly, it looks like TV decided to focus on the bat and thus the real comedy was missed.

By the way, do we now have to treat Virat Kohli like the Australians treated Stuart Broad for not walking on a blatant edge?

I vote "No".

where are the people who keep going on about how Dhoni doesn't give credit or w/e to the opposition? lol
What we seem to have learnt isn't that Dhoni is a self centred prick who doesn't give the opposition enough credit publicly. It's just that he has extremely high standards for doing so

Great series. Two high quality tests - one gripping match, two exceptional rearguard efforts and one truly ATG innings. Tainted only by Ishant ensuring his place in the Indian team until 2015, but we can't have it all.

NZ ratings for those who played both tests

McCullum 9/10 - a great series from Baz, tho a couple of typically terrible dismissals sandwiched between his two best ever performances stop him from picking up a perfect score.
Southee 8/10 - typically excellent and consistent, only bowling poorly once (on the 1st afternoon of the second test)
Boult 7/10 - a little all over the place this series, swinging from exceptional in the 1st innings at Auckland, to genuinely poor in the second innings at Auckland. Despite his stellar career numbers, he remains a work in progress.
Wagner 7/10 - probably his best ever series for New Zealand, though he's still producing plenty of pies.
Watling 7/10 - looked in terrible touch with the bat until out of frickin' nowhere he produced arguably the greatest ever innings by an NZ keeper batsman. Also immaculate behind the stumps.
Williamson 6.5/10 - a great start to the series that disappointingly trailed off. Still pushes too hard outside the line of off.
Anderson 4/10 - sawn off when a century was in sight in the first innings at Auckland. Subsequently batted terribly and bowled some horrible pies.
Rutherford 2/10 - ick
Fulton 1/10 - bye Fults

Was too emotional after getting there imo. Should have got off the strike, composed himself and should have really cut loose to get close to that 400.

C'mon, McCullum should be at the very least a 9.5, if not a 10. A double and a triple in a 2 test series, the double setting up a victory and the triple salvaging a draw and hence winning the series. What more could you ask from your skipper?

Looks about right or though some India fans could make a half-decent case fo Dhoni & Jadeja to be bracketed with Watling & Neesham, although they didn't have the influence on the series the two Kiwi's did.

For me 10/10 means a flawless effort (like Taylor's effort v WI) and McCullum's series certainly wasn't flawless. His first innings dismissal was hide behind the sofa terrible, and his run-out at Auckland was almost slapstick in its stupidity. Both dismissals heaped significant pressure on the rest of the side, though ultimately his two other innings rendered his twin brain-melts utterly irrelevant. So 9/10 feels about right for me.

Reckon the pace attack should be Southee, Boult, Sharma. Wags had a good series by his standards, but I think Boult still shaded him, and Sharma was already outstanding in the 3rd seamer role. If you're prepared to go in with a long tail then Wagner could still grab a spot ahead of Neesham.

I'm with Zinzan 300 gives him bonus points to counteract his failures.

Even if he had've gotten a pair in the first game - and it had've been Taylor with the double - there is still a case for giving him a ten on this effort alone given how colossal it was. Remember Greatbatch was shattered when he batted for 7 hours and was never the same batsman afterwards. To concentrate for that long is beyond what a normal human should be able to accomplish.

I havn't seen the SRs recently of the other triples but I would think they are probably higher?
