I see most people are of the view Bailey should be drop.In my opinion Aussies should stick with Bailey.
He didnt deserve the spot and did nothing while the other top 7 and MJ feasted on the English bowling. Pretty sure Hughes, North and others could have done better. George is a good short format player but just not up to tests.

How about test played in the SC? I still think he's an excellent player of spin and has the capacity to play a good test innings, it's just that his technique cannot handle quality fast bowling on bouncy decks

Good call. Be worth a spot in a tour squad to the SC. Be nice to find a no 6 who can handle pace and spin so we don't have to change based on conditions.

Bailey, like the majority of Australian batsmen feasts on average spin bowling that can be played from the crease and launched through midwicket i.e. Watson v Kerrigan, however struggles when facing quality spin bowling like we faced in India earlier this year.

just because he launched a few long hops over midwicket in some odi's that happened to be in india doesn't make him a good player of spin

tbf after watching Hughes/Khawaja vs Swann during the winter series anything else looks like playing spin well, although I think Bailey has some decent footwork and his aggressive style could possibly be utilised in the SC

Nah I'm with benchmark and dermo on this one. He's good at bombing spinners for sixes when he can get to the pitch or it's not turning much, but as England found out after they selected Eoin "top three players of spin in the country" Morgan in subcontinent Tests based on his ODI player, there's a big difference between being able to wack part-timers through the middle overs with the field back on flat ODI pitches and being able to read and play Test bowlers who can bowl 15 over spells with men catching around the bat. Ajmal made Bailey look terrible a few times in the UAE and while he managed to just get through that and then capitalise on the other bowling on that tour, that wouldn't have happened in a Test. He's certainly not a good enough player of spin to be picked based on that alone for a subcontinent tour.

Test incumbents and retirees aside though, who do we have who is actually a quality player of spin? Relative to their peers, the Watsons and Baileys of this world might be the best we're getting..

Smith's decent isn't he? Also thought Cowan wasn't horrible.

i dont remember seeing bailey in uae, probs didnt watch it, which is why i was asking based on what, because there sure aren't any spinners in shield, which is most of the reason we have nobody who can play spin

Who cares about the ****ing subcontinent? Is SA playing a home test in ****ing Delhi?

I'll care about the subcontinent when the people who live there man up and stop opening the bowling with spinners on pitches that puff dust on the first day. Pathetic.

Well India has played a full domestic tournament in South Africa, so it's only fair they return the favour somehow..

I was thinking along the same lines that we saw some poor stuff in India and vs Swann so he would have to be an improvement. Hughes and Uzi stand out as bring the worst offenders but they had company. Looks like I have been successful in erasing some of that from my memory.

Bailey should be given an extended run.He has shown (I know its only odi) that he can dominate international bowling.
Hughes would have been my choice leading in to the ashes series, but now they picked Bailey ,he should be given a long run in a team which is on a winning streak. Why change a successful team?If its not broke then no need to fix it.Btw Bailey is a gun at playing spin, regardless of what some on here my seem to think. He dominated Swann.

I don't disagree ftr, but Bailey has used his feet pretty well when whacking the spinners from what I've seen.
