***Official*** India in South Africa 2013/14

India avoiding the indignity achieved by previous recent tourists despite the conditions being the most alien to them. Good stuff.

I'm not trying to hate on Philander, but it was actually nice to see him be out bowled by both Steyn+Morkel for a change. Early days though..

Flem, there is still a 3rd innings, Australia for instance did reasonable in our first innings, often forgotten how SA performed badly first innings in the 47 game.

Think they've done a bit more than avoid indignity imo. Personally, I think they won the session. There was definitely help for the bowlers and SA would be disappointed with 70-2. Especially how they leaked runs in the last few overs

India's session. Day 1 Jo'burg you take that. Most importantly it was the two openers out, not Kohli or Pujara.
Neither teams' session really. SA would be pleased with the amount of edges they produced and ind would be pleased that Kohli and Pujara seem to be almost comfortable.

It seems like India won the session because of what we expecting more than anything; they're in no way ahead in the game at 70/2. India will be a lot happier with how that went than South Africa but realistically it's honours even.

Fair enough, but if you'd told India they'd be 70-2 at lunch with Kohli and Pujara well set, they'd have taken that gladly. There's also the fact that Philander and Steyn weren't as good as they usually are. Reckon SA will be slightly disappointed

If they can keep milking the part timers, I definitely see a good score

South Africa bowled too short. Coach should be filthy on them.
Yeah, Philander especially. If you pick Morkel then that's what you get, but Philander was really poor in that regard. I wonder if the work he's been doing on becoming a better away bowler and a better one day bowler has got him into some bad habits; I was actually impressed with how he brought his length back in the UAE and in the one dayers he played recently but bowling the same length here was criminal.

Yeah I don't disagree with that at all, but that's more saying that we expected SA to win the session than that India won it. India will be a lot happier than SA with how that went but that's not quite the same thing as India winning the session. If this was Ireland playing their first Test and they went in 50/2 they'd probably take that but they'd have still lost the session.

Kohli almost in the 50 ball 100 mode. Not the strike rate but the composure and concentration. If he accelerates like he is capable of, the match could be made difficult for SA in one session.
