While I still don't think Sodhi should be playing international cricket yet, I don't think I've ever seen any New Zealand spin bowler make two quality international batsmen look so clueless. Great signs for his future.
Based on this game in isolation he is ready. But thinking about the Banger games as well then he is not ready. The fact that he has had 600 runs to defend has allowed his captain to back him to the hilt and that has been the making of him in this game. Give him the rest of this series and then make your mind up Bahnz. I think he is learning and growing right before our eyes with each day of test cricket. For example he is going to his googly more often now. While in Bangerland I saw it once in two tests.

He also just looks less intimidated now. And don't forget he is getting turn on a new zealand wicket. That is quite something.

We all know that Dan dissapears in the 2nd inning, Sodhi may just give us a chance tomorrow and he pulls it off then he is ready.

This is Baz's best match from a captaincy perspective hands down. Good declaration and his backing of Sodhi in particular has been strong.

He bowled just as well in the second test against Bangladesh tbh.

Not Terrible
Bravo is definitely a class act.

Nice to see Southee and Boult being gun as well. Think we could be in for a long innings here but considering our lead it shouldn't make too much of a difference. WI don't have enough batting to keep us away and we have enough new balls to use in this game that I can't foresee them keeping us out here.

Just saw the Bravo review. Seriously, how the **** was that given not out?
Radio commentators were discussing same question, they think TV umpire was incorrectly thinking rule was "glove" contact must be below the wrist. IIRC they found different versions of the rule on line. They plan to ask Gould when they see him in the morning.

this better not be true. Umpires who don't know a ****ing basic rule would just be a step too far

At has to be a failure to understand the rules though. It would be impossible to look at that footage and say that the ball didn't hit the wrist strap.

I've just gone back and read your last 3 or 4 posts to learn your position on Sodhi. Despite the fact I am clearly on your side that Sodhi deserves at a minimum a long hard look as a player you found something to disagree with in my post and that must have taken quite some effort. Since I was joining you by saying he was a good player you should have agreed with my general sentiment.

Just as some helpful feedback for you. 70% of the last 1000 posts I have read by you are based on disagreeing with someone else's opinion rather than creating your own original content. Please a) make more posts where you just spontaneously give us your opinion b) don't be so keen to contribute by correcting trivial issues.

I personally don't think there's anything particularly contrarian about Mike's posting.

/contrarian post.

My feedback is based on my own experience and observations over the past 3 years. If you have a different view then that is fine. Personally I think mike should take my feedback seriously. I made an effort to word it politely.

When do we seriously consider sticking a fork in West Indies cricket? Having seen them in India where they played like us, and watching this over the past day and a bit, it's really quite tragic. A vet would be recommending euthanasia wouldn't they?
5 wins in the last 81 Tests against meaningful opposition over the last 10 years but according to the fans they're just one or 2 selections away from being a good team with a world class attack.

Think that one of those 2 has more relevance to their actual ability than the other.

Well actually if you judge from the india series and this current NZ one we're FOUR OR FIVE selections away!!..you can try and belittle our cricket if you want but the facts are the facts...these selectors have contrived to keep an underserving captain in the position and are ignoring quality players in the process!!..right now our side is unbalanced with a c choice bowling attack!!..

Are we a top class side? no!!..but even top class sides like England get whitewashed against pakistan!!..top class sides like India get beaten 4-0 back to back!!!..while Australia have been getting beaten left, right and centre recently!!..every side has their own issues!!..i said before the india series i'd take two innings defeats if it meant serious changes are made to our cricket!!!..a defeat here will certainly have the alarm bells ringing and hopefully lead to major changes!!..

Anyway!!..as for the game at hand...well the whole thing is down to the guys at the crease right now, if they get in and weather the early storm then our prospects of getting a draw will get better by the over. If one goes early then it could very well be curtains!!..the aim must be to have at least one set batsman and Ramdin there by stumps!!..if that happens we should be in a safe position by then.

I'm hoping that innings by Kirk is the rebirth of him now!!!..these conditions have been his boogy man since the england tour and to finally get in and score a 50 will do his confidence the world of good!!..he's top class in asian and caribbean conditions so if he finally adapts to swinging conditions his game should move up another level.

Yes, 5 wins in 81 Tests is a fact.

Regardless of your ranting about other sides losing here or there, none of them have a record anywhere near as bad as that.
Yeah we've been crap since we ruled the world for 15 years!!..i'm sure only a rocket scientist would know that!! :D .

I don't think that'd be a safe position at all. You might actually be able to push on for a win there, but I don't think a draw would be likely at all.
