Also, I've made this point before, but he's sort've had an opposite of Stuart McGill effect; he's been behind Vettori his whole career, but instead of being selected for turning tracks like the Aussies did, he's purely been selected for flat, lifeless decks against good players of spin bowling.

Basically whenever our mediocre medium pace bowlers of the mid 2000s CBF, Jeets was thrust in.
Thank you. I always felt bad when he was fed to the lions in India tours. He actually bowled pretty well on the previous tour of India for that two-test series. I'm not following this match super closely but I would've guessed NZ would play two spinners in Jeets and Martin with maybe Astle as the surprise pick. Kinda shocked Sodhi has leapfrogged Jeets and Astle, because he looked way too raw at the U-19 WC last year.

Well they're all rubbish, why not pick someone who actually has the tools to be a proper test match bowler?

Stick with Sodhi
Tools to be a proper test match bowler? That's a bit generous. Wouldn't you like to see him first prove that he can do it at the domestic FC level first? If he has the tools, then all leggies have the tools.

He's young, he's raw, and I'm sure he can get better but he's not there yet. But I don't think all NZ spinners are total rubbish. Jeets is a good bowler. He'll give it a decent rip and he's accurate.

Hi Athlai.
we're at lunch so I'll give a slightly longer answer. The fundamental problem with Jeets is that his craftiness is only a 6 out of ten. The original incarnation of Jeetan was a 1 out of ten. He had no clue what to do or how to bowl differently to each batsman and was a confidence bowler and the opposition knew it so they would go after him early so he couldn't settle. Jeets mark II was a much better bowler but still not savvy enough.

Because Test cricket isn't some sandbox for kids who average 70 on A tours. And no-one in the game would argue Sodhi has a hardened and unsentimental temperament that's poles apart from Martin Crowe's at the same age either; he's a very young 20-year-old by modern standards. He's not one of these guys who's targeted cricket as a career path despite it being about his fifth preference as a pure sport, because he sees the game as weak. Having a worldwide connotation with ****ness will hurt him bitterly.
