New Zealand A Tour of India and Sri Lanka

Mmm not much to be said about that loss apart from that it's nice to see Milne's five wickets (two caught behind and two bowled hopefully means he deserved them) and some useful practice for Elliott before he joins the NZ limited overs team.

I'm still surprised Elliott has resurrected himself to be anywhere near the NZ side, but he keeps doing just enough to retain a spot and does fit into the right role batting in between Taylor and McCullum.

One week until the first Bangladesh test starts, believe it or not.

Prasanna, Dimuth and Kusal pilot Sri Lanka 'A' to victory | Daily News Online : Sri Lanka's National News

Seekkuge Prasanna's five wicket haul and a century partnership between Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Janith Perera, helped Sri Lanka 'A' to level the three-match unofficial One Day International Series 1-1 as the hosts recorded a 44-run victory on Duckworth and Lewis Method against New Zealand 'A' in the second ODI played at Pallekele yesterday.

Prasanna, who was brought into the side instead of seamer Shaminda Eranga, reaped a rich harvest claiming five wickets for 38 causing the damage for Kiwi 'A' batsmen from his very first delivery. The 28-year-old right arm wrist spinner rushed two maiden overs and took the fifth wicket in his 10th over before bad light stopped play at 5.35pm.

Lankan 'A' spinners - Prasanna, Ramith Rambukwella, who came to the side for Dilruwan Perera, bowled well to restrict Kiwi 'A' batsmen with the help of left arm spinner Chaturanga de Silva who captured one wicket for 26 as the all-rounder had Colin Munro caught and bowled for 3. Rambukwella, who smashed 13 off 9 balls, bowled a decent spell conceding 28 in 7 overs having capture d one wicket.

Number three batsman Carl Cachopa, who was struggling in run making was also trapped plumb in front off Prasanna for 1 after facing 13 balls.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the hosts made 291 for the loss of nine wickets on a very good batting surface, which helped to make 672 runs in the Sunday's match.

Sri Lanka 'A' openers Karunaratne and Perera made a brisk start reaching 50 in just seven overs when Kusal Janith Perera struck six over mid-wicket. Perera's running between wickets was excellent and cut for a boundary nicely through the point and gully area to reach his back to back half century in just 35 balls.

Perera, who blasted three sixes through his favourite shot over mid-wicket and over cover regions, had punched six fours when Sri Lanka 'A' raised to 80 in 10 overs.

The opening pair lost the momentum after rain interrupted play for 43 minutes when they had made 97 in 16 overs.

Andrew Ellis did the breakthrough as Kusal Janith Perera was easily caught by a straight forward catch by Anaru Kitchen at extra cover off a well deceived slowed delivery for 65 when the total was at 108.

Opener Karunaratne continued his consistence form making a half ton. The last match's unsung hero, who made a run-a-ball 120, was sedate yesterday as only four boundaries came from his willow, facing 74 balls.

Karunaratne, shared a 76-run stand for the fourth wicket with Angelo Perera. Perera scored an unusual patient 36 in 58 balls hitting only two fours. Both players were caught in the mandatory power play when trying to accelerate the net run rate.

Dimuth, the 25-year-old Test opener missed the second successive hundred due to a thick inside edge off seamer Andre Milne for 81.

It was apparent that Ashan Priyanjan, who showed great potential during his two knocks, was batting down the order in both matches. Priyanjan's temperament, technique and placing the ball was excellent while punishing away the bad balls. The elegant right hander hoisted a classy six over cover region, which is hit by clever willowmen.

Ramith Rambukwella and Seekkuge Prasanna promoted to bat ahead of Ashan Priyanjan and Sachithra Serasinghe when the batting power play was progressed.

Rambukwella opened the account hitting a well placed boundary between long-on and deep mid-wicket and cracked a trazerbullet four down the ground before caught behind by Luck Ronchi off Adam Milne in the next ball for 13 with three fours.

Kiwi 'A' paceman Adam Milne was the wicket taker again as the right armer scalped five wickets costing 61 runs in nine overs. Milne had already taken three wickets on Sunday, which Sri Lanka lost the match in a dramatic way due to poor light.

The two teams will move to Dambulla, the venue for the third and last unofficial ODI to be played on Thursday ending New Zealand 'A's five-week-long Asian tour as the tourists had a series against India from August 28.
Clever willowmen and trazerbullets....what the **** is a trazerbullet.

The Sri Lanka openers seem to be pretty classy.

Good for Milne, who's performances are probably even better considering the runs leaked at the other end during the opening spells.

Tough for Henry, he's a bit of a favourite in this forum. Lets clock it down as good experience? Hard to know. The SL top order have taken a liking to him.

You can nominate any players or game wraps you'd like to see as a Kippax video from this tour btw, if say the footage became available next week. You can repeat (or give a like to) a poster's suggestion to get the player/game moved up the order.

Like to see some footage of Milne. Especially him swinging it both ways.

Most deliveries here are inswing - 28secs is a close up. There's one outswinger in there too - 49 secs looks like an outswinger.
I enjoyed that. A bit wild and woolly in places, but the wicket looked a road and yet Milne was still regularly hitting the splice. There was also definitely some inswing, and the odd ball moved away too (although that could have been seam rather than swing). Can't wait to see him back in the national side.

Milne is signing off his A tour with another fine - and thoroughly unsupported - performance. Is there no possible way that we could sneak him into the test squad for the Bangladesh tour? Maybe roster Dougeh to do the cleanup work for the team's arrival function?

Yeah, it looked like reasonable pace because of the bounce and the way the batsmen were being hurried. And while I can't be 100% sure that he was swinging it both ways in the same match, in the last year there have been occasions when he's bowled outswing and occasions when he's bowled inswing, so there's no reason to think he can't do it.

It's going to be very difficult to maintain good control with both an outswinger and an inswinger. Jimmy Anderson does it but he's a yard or two slower. Dale Steyn doesn't have a genuine in swinger so he might want to look at his example and make sure he has a really good stock ball and only use the changeup rarely.

Southee, Boult and Milne are locks in 12 months time fitness permitting unless one of Wagner, Bracewell and Gillespie get their act together. I don't see how domestic batsmen are going to cope with someone who can swing it both ways at pace.

The spinner could be anyone.

Holy **** Kuggs!

Looks like another road.
Heh, given that Lakmal and Eranga bowled 9 overs between them for 79, I think that's a fair assumption. No wonder Andrew Fernando is so pissed off about the state of SRL pitches.

It's interesting that Milne seems to have settled on making the in-swinger his stock delivery. Generally if you can swing it both ways it's better to use the outswinger as your regular, delivery, as the in-swinger will then threaten the pads/stumps. By contrast, if a batsman plays for the inswinger when the ball is moving away, 99% of the time the movement is going to be too much to catch the edge (that was Martin Crowe's - highly effective - strategy for dealing with Wasim's ability to swing it both ways).

Anyway I'm bored. Name your top ten batsmen and quick bowlers in unzud.

Bowlers

Southee
Boult
Gillespie (when he's actually "booming" through the crease)
Milne
Wheeler
Bracewell
Henry
Wagner
Butler
Arnel

batsmen

Taylor
Ryder (when he can be bothered)
Vettori
KW
Watling
Brownlie
McCullum
Fulton
Rutherford
Flynn

Prediction: Neesham will have a better test career than Anderson.

hmm, maybe he's trying to bring in all modes of dismissal more with the inswinger?

half baked theory: iirc an NZer once had some idea that in limited overs outswing bowlers like Steyn tended to go for more runs and be less effective than inswing bowlers. Maybe that's Milne's logic?
