Champions League Twenty20

Seen the squads were announced this morning (not seen this mentioned anywhere else)

Out of 12 players who qualify for 2 teams, 10 of them have chosen to represent their away side (team who don't play in their home country). I find that ridiculous really, money talks - you are contracted permanently to your county/state and you can choose to play for the IPL side. They are probably trying to ensure they get even more money from the IPL next season.

No surprise that the only player who took the decision to play for his home team was Kumar Sangakarra - great bloke IMO. The other player was Perera who had a Big Bash and an IPL side.

No Pakistan team in CLT20 - Indian Express

The speculation over the participation of Faisalabad Wolves in the Champions League T20 tournament has ended with government sources saying that the Pakistani team will not be playing in this year's edition. Sources said that it would be difficult to provide security to the visiting team as the tournament was spread over several venues.

"Taking into account security requirements as a matter of abundant caution, the government is not giving the green signal to the Faisalabad Wolves. This is the approach followed in several other recent cases of Pakistani groups planning to visit India. The most recent being the Pakistani Zaireen, who were to participate in the Amir Khusro festival," a government source said.

The Champions League T20 has matches scheduled in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Ranchi from September 17 to October 6.

Earlier, BCCI sources had confirmed that no new team would be drafted in to replace the Faisalabad Wolves if the ministry does not give the side a go ahead. The Wolves were scheduled to play the qualifiers for the tournament in Mohali, Chandigarh.

Otago now looking to avoid being the poor unfortunate who loses twice and misses the main draw...

Volts keep roll on

Volts keep roll on
11 Sep 2013

The Otago Volts have carried on their unbeaten ways on their CLT20 warm up tour of Sri Lanka. The Otago Polytechnic sponsored side are in Colombo playing a series of games against a Sri Lankan selection.
In a change from the previous two encounters the Volts batted first and were under pressure early. Wickets fell at 8,17,37 and 39 and with Broom, Rutherford, Redmond and Brendon McCullum back in the hut the pinch went on the middle order.

McCullum, who will captain the side for the Champions League campaign arrived in the country late the previous night.

Neesham and Bracewell started the rescue mission and there 39 run partnership for the 5th wicket started to put the innings back on track. When Bracewell was bowled for 10 in the 12th over the score was 78.
Derek de Boorder joined Neesham and the two lifted the tempo of the innings. Neesham was eventually dismissed for 51 when the score was at 106. The innings of Neesham came off 28 balls and included five fours and two sixes.

De Boorder forged on with Mark Craig and that pair got the team through to 144-6 at the start of the 20th over. In an extraordinary turn of events Craig, de Boorder, Beard and McMillan were dismissed off consecutive deliveries at the start of the 20th over bowled by Alankara Asanka meaning the Volts had to settle for 144.

James McMillan soon had the pressure back on the locals when he had two wickets in the first over of the defence. Neesham had the Sri Lankans three down when he removed Solaman with the score at 22.
International Kaushalya Weearathna and Madana Warnapura then set upon a partnership that had their team right in the game after 13 overs.

With the score at 93 and the equation in favour of the home side in the 14th over Mark Craig had the key wicket of Warnapura caught at short fine leg. When Beard removed Weearathna two overs later the Volts were back in the hunt.
Well executed death bowling from McMillan, Duffy and Neesham completed the fight back, the pressure created led to regular wickets in the final overs and the Sri Lankans were eventually restricted to 125-8.

Short Scoreboard
Otago Volts 144 (J Neesham 51, D de Boorder 33, A Redmond 16, A Asanka 5-26) BEAT Sri Lankan Selection (K Weearathna 44, M Warnapura 38, J McMillan 2-18, J Neesham 2-17)

The Brisbane Heat team looks bloody awful on paper without Pomersbach in it... and he's the only one from the final who is missing.

It'll be interesting to see how Gannon goes this season.

Have Otago managed to get RTD? I know they haven't got Lee unfortunately. Hope they do okay and Ruds gets some big runs. Would be a pretty impressive batting lineup if Ryder were eligible now.

Dutch international Ryan ten Doeschate will miss Otago's opening game in the Champions League tonight but could still play a part in the tournament.

The Essex all-rounder will be released from his county commitments if English international Ravi Bopara is fit to play in Essex's first-class clash against Glamorgan beginning at 9.30pm (New Zealand time).

About an hour later, the Volts will play the Faisalabad Wolves in their opening qualifying match in India.

If ten Doeschate is released, he could board a plane and be in India in time for the Volts' match against the Kandurata Maroons tomorrow night.

It would be a rushed trip and, realistically, he is more likely to be available for Otago's final qualifier against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Friday.

McCullum etc. were in South Africa last summer. Was Broom and Rutherford opening in the final, think they used Wells a bit.

I like how we have no idea what their 20/20 records are like but we have all the players twitterboxes on the telly.

ahaha, I love how James McMillan probably suckered that guy in just with the (lack of) length of his run up.

It's sad in a way. Imagine how fast this **** was in his younger years with his full run up? 140kph off a meandering few steps at 35 years old ffs.
