Do they actually need a definitely defensive midfielder though? Areteta, Cazorla and Wilshere isan excellent three, although as you say injuries are always a problem. Gustavo would have been a good signing for sure but it is not the biggest priority. Obviously a striker is much needed but still think they could do with a new defeinder, I know Koscielny and Mertesacker did will together but the latter does still not convince me against really good sides.

Anyway, am going to try and watch this friendly.

The very sound of our 'anthem' gives me that awful 'im watching England' sinking feeling.

I'm sure that mistake will be totally forgotten when they keep on calling Joe Hart World-class throughout the season, like all his other mistakes.

I swear if he was forn and played in goal for Arsenal he'd be constantly rubbished.

It's amazing to think there's an entire generation of footballers who have never played in the fixture.

England's 44-41 record vs us is really pretty pish as well.

Not a bad night's entertainment, that. Pleased for Ricky Lambert. Pleased that Jack Wilshere looked pretty decent too. Not a lot else to be particularly pleased about.

It is an excellent three, but I'm not convinced it'd be solid enough against teams with a really decent midfield. In possession it'd be fine, I suspect, but against a team that could counter-attack well, I'd be feeling worried. They might not need an out and out defensive midfielder, but at least one who's slightly more physical. Alex Song or Diaby when fit in other words. Sigh.

England really only operating at 80% in this friendly I gather?
I see what you've done there...

Defamation to even allude to our cricketers in the same breath as our football team.

We're just not very good at football, is all.
