*Official* Second Test at Lord's

]He was absolutely dreadful in his first Ashes series. I mean he really stunk. Pathetic. In his second series he'd improved to being crap. His third series he was good, and now at the beginning of his fourth, he's very, very good.
Aussie cricket fans have never forgotten just how bad Bell was in 2005 (and he was truly awful) and it's my theory that is why he is still the subject of constant ridicule for you Cons........the knockers have just focused on those early years and totally ignored what he has achieved since then, has to be one of the most underrated batsmen ever. His knock at TB came as no surprise to me at all.

As Ginger pointed out this is his 5th Ashes series, so when you mention his 3rd I assume you mean his 4th.......last time in Oz right? Good you say H....good?? 360 runs in only 6 knocks at an average of 65 is just "good"?? He had the 3rd highest average for the series and better than any Aussie batsmen......if England hadn't have remained loyal to Colly and their game plan and Bell batted where he should have it's fair to assume he would have cashed in even more.

If there is any sort of cricketing god out there then Ian Bell will score 500+ runs for this series and finally get the respect that he deserves.

Loyal to Colly? **** off. He got screwed over big time because they gave Bell a load of extra games he didn't deserve. Bell only toughened up when they stopped giving him a free pass.

Since debut, Watto (42 Tests) has missed 52 Tests. Aus have won 65.4% of those, but only 45.2% of the 42 he has played.

LOL, settle down there Geordie Boy!! I was only referring to that Ashes series, nothing else. Bell was in sublime form that series and Colly was struggling big time......Bell should have been in front of Colly in the batting order for that series. My comment had nothing to do with anything that happened previously in their careers.

I'm not dissing your lad in any way........trust me I'm a bigger fan of your local boy than I am of Bell.

BTW Scaly, Just wondering if you happened to know George the Podge??

So Watson and his faction are a cancer. Hmm. Not good timing. Wonder who is in this faction?

So England fans......what do we do about Finn??

After my frustration with him the other night I was pretty adamant that he can't play at Lords....now I'm not so sure. Can't go past his record of 29 wickets @ 20..66 at the home of cricket and lets be honest......not sure I have too much faith in the alternatives.

Is he truly shot or can he bounce back from that horrendous test match??. We can't have Cook in a position of not wanting to bowl him but having to again.

Fairly decent article here on Englands dilema.

Thoughts??

Well I wouldn't call in Onions for Finn as that would leave us with too similar an attack so it is Bresnan and his old ball ability against Finn and his good record on his home ground. I think he will keep his place but he has to perform or will be dropped for the 3rd test.

I assume he's referring to James Anderson. Or he's forgotten that Bell was recalled for the last three tests in 2009.
Yep. I meant Jimmy, and in particular how dramatic his improvement as a bowler has been compared to Broad's.

Bell's got better too of course! I've always loved his technique but never liked his sour puss!

I'm kind of with you, after my initial disgust at some of his bowling, I really don't rate the alternatives at Lords.

Give him this game and see how it goes, he clearly loves the ground, and hopefully Broad will be fully fit by then, and ease the work for Jimmeh. There's a lot of talk of Lords being really firm, unusual, but if they're correct, maybe a decent surface for him.

Yeah, I've flip-flopped spectacularly, sue me.

surely that includes when he was left out for however many years for not being good enough while we had an awesome team (ie pre-opener days) everyone loves a good watto bagging but thats a bit misleading

Yeah, he played like 3 Tests or something before the tour of India 2008/09 (which was the first sign of decline, really). So I'd like to see the figures SINCE he's became a regular.

That said, we did win 4-0 a series he missed

You might have a bigger dilemma than that Adders. Surely Swanny's not spraying antiperspirant on his hands is he? Is Graeme Swann tampering with the ball? - YouTube

The headline and caption refer to the ball but I'm assuming that's safely tucked into the ump's pocket.
look why would anyone be surprised? we've had murray mints, stuart fraud, matt prior just to name a few, their cycling team crashing on purpose to force a restart and even half of the poms cheat on their partner you reckon they sent boatloads of poms out here way back because they were hard workers?!

Watson has also been apart of big series losses which probably would've still occured was Bradman playing instead of him. Think the last Ashes and the Indian tour. I'm also sure he would've loved to get in on the action against India when you lot won 4-0.
