Sheep Draft version 4.0

Whatever it takes!!!
Gary Kirsten
Virender Sehwag
HD Ackerman
Doug Walters
Clyde Walcott (wk)
Ted Dexter
Wasim Raja
Mitchell Starc
Dale Steyn
Joey Palmer
Bishen Bedi

Very happy with the balance of the squad, given two FAST bowlers (a left armer and a right armer) two very good fast medium bowling all rounders, a leg spin bowling allrounder, two ATG spinners ( a SLA and an offie) , two very good openers and one of the three Ws.. Think it is a pretty solid side even with the sheep pick in there at 3..

One of those sides that actually looks a lot lighter on paper but one that would perform well beyond expectations on the field if such a side could ever play together with all the players at their youth.

Looks like the edit function is broken. I edited the post to swap Dexter and Walters in the batting order, as they seem to have better batting records in those positions, but it kept telling me my post was too short and I should put in at least ONE character..

Good side honest but Joey Palmer an ATG? I guess he puts the all-time in ATG.

We are just waiting on AZH, KK and Fred.

No obvious skipper, having eschewed DRJ for once in a draft, but I'm happy with this lot, and to give the captaincy to the non-test player, one of the most underrated cricketers in the game's history

1. Archie Jackson

2. Bob Barber
3. Graeme Pollock
4. Basil D’Oliveira
5. *Bill Alley
6. Eddie Paynter
7. +Tiger Smith
8. Amar Singh

10. Brian Statham
11. Bob Appleyard

Very solid batting line-up and one of the more eclectic bowling attacks I've seen - it certainly won't be lost for variation. I think that you can be proud of your effort Fred.

OK, which one of you low down dirty bastards banned Malcolm Marshall?

I wanted Malcolm. :(

p.s. I also banned Bradman. Can't let that arsehole get through. You could have 10 sheep and Bradman and still have the best team.

Yay, finally managed to get a reasonable batsman first go.

Looks like Bradman was squashed from both sides - dual pick and banned. Not completely unexpected tbh.

Frustratingly here's my theoretically-could-have-been-if-fate-had-been-different-for-some-of-the-rounds team;

01. Barry Richards
02. Herbert Sutcliffe
03. Rohan Kanhai
04. George Headley*
05. Victor Trumper
06. Vijay Hazare
07. Jim Parks+
08. Andy Roberts
09. Curtly Ambrose
10. Allan Donald
11. Subhash Gupte

12th Jackie McGlew

This is what I got;

01. Colin McDonald
02. Jim Burke/Aamer Sohail
03. TBA
04. Vijay Manjrekar
05. Bill Edrich
06. Tiger Pataudi*
07. Jim Parks+
08. Andy Roberts
09. Curtly Ambrose
10. Peter Heine
11. Subhash Gupte

12th Jim Burke/Aamer Sohail

Note: Not sure whether to partner McDonald with Sohail or Burke. Sohail is a good attacking left-hander, but McDonald and Burke formed a successful opening partnership in the 1950s. And I like known established partnerships;

I'll post the banning numbers of each player when we finish. I think it can make a difference on a persons pick if they think no one banned Bradman or if they think 6 people for example, banned him.

We are just waiting on Morgie and Justo.

Just looked at the Banned players again - banning Bradman and Marshall is understandable because they represent the very best of their trades. But I must say that selecting Botham and S.Pollock requires some kind of anticipatory 6th sense.

Also. KKs line-up is an interesting one. Three really good fast-bowlers and three part-time spinners. Now wondering how proficient Inverarity's left-arm orthodox was as he bowled quite a lot of it later in his career?
