Southee's batting is the most over-criticised thing on CW for mine. He's the perfect #9 and he's rarely been given the chance to bat above that.

tbf he does well enough in domestics to suggest that he should be a capable number 8 in tests

Southee definitely better off going the slog (or at least playing positively), as I type he is playing some lovely shots. NZ fans will also be glad to note that C Martin isn't in at 11 either, Boult can score handy runs down their while Wagner is more of a blocker.
