Jesse Ryder Seriously Injured during attack at Christchurch bar

BackFootPunch

International 12th Man
Basically had a reporter on site talking to the manager of the bar.

He said that the Wellington boys were in there, very well behaved etc, then went to leave and all headed over towards McDonalds. Jesse was last in the line and stopped to have a yarn to some young bloke. They talked for 2-3 minutes then obviously one of the two (assuming it was the young guy) has said something offensive so Jesse has turned to leave. The guy then gave him more words so Jesse turned and said something back then continued trying to leave. He got out onto the footpath then an older relative (father, uncle, or something like that) of the young guy came up and they had an altercation before some bar patrons broke it up and restrained the guy. Must have been a reasonable scrap cause Ryder ended up bleeding and on the ground with his shirt ripped. Then two ladies he was with helped him up and he kept walking across the road.

Apparently the bloke was seemingly calmed down so those holding him let him go, at which point he sprinted after Jesse and king hit him from behind.

Him and his family then left in a taxi, although the mother of the younger guy got in an argument about not being let back inside the bar.

So yeah, bunch of ****wits really.

What are the odds of that family being punished then, assuming the story is completely true?

On retrospect they should have let the young guy back into the bar and called the police to arrest him and find out who the uncle was.

Can't imagine, from what BackFootPunch is saying that there will be any difficulty nicking the offenders - might be some interesting questions of law arise in relation to those more peripherally involved

Not sure of the diff between assault and aggravated assault.

I am really struggling to actually comprehend how some people could be so bad as to do this.
In the simplest possible terms, aggravated assault is serious assault. Essentially it's just an umbrella term which encompasses a number of types of assaults which are more serious than common assault.

In NSW law for example, assaults such as reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm are aggravated assault crimes.

Circumstances of the actions make them aggravated, such as intents etc.

Urgh. Domestic current affairs programmes. So sensationalised. It's anathema to me. Sadly, might have to watch. Sigh.
Hah, was picturing Heef with the "Jesse's been trending on Twitter in places like London and Melbourne" bit. Can't say they didn't sweep the field with their version of the incident itself and backstory gossip though (thanks BFP).

Confirmed to Wgtn players there is no brain damage. Was on his final warning with Wellington due to his behaviour in recent weeks.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of verbal insult is considered to be the worst in NZ? The answer is so different around the world.
