**** if Southee is dropped and Wagner retained I will become an alcoholic.

Eden Park will swing.

Will be a completely different contest.

Radio Sport were absolutely bagging Southee out earlier as well. The media are certainly going to hang him out if NZ go down heavily.

Deserves all he gets. Pea hearted. Artichoke brained.

The other two that need a kick up the arse are Williamson and Taylor. They had better score some runs this innings.

The rain will save NZ, but they don't deserve it.

What I think the Test series has shown us to date that on these kind of pitches, we need a bit more variety in our attack. Especially someone with out and out pace who can hurry the batsmen up.

Is there anyone around the domestic scene these days bowling 140+ consistency?

Apart from the possibility of Guptill coming back in, I imagine the team will look the same as this one for the England trip. I suppose there's no word on when or if Ryder is coming back.

He really doesn't look like taking wickets at the moment though. As much as Wagner bowls far too many "hit=me" balls, he is taking wickets. If Bracewell is fit, the selectors have a tough choice for Auckland. The truly horrible but pragmatic choice might be to drop Martin as I can't see him being a major factor in Auckland.

Bracewell hasn't done anything in the last 12 months to suggest he'd perform any better than the four bowlers currently in the team. Unchanged for me.

There's no consistency if proven stamina and fitness is what you're after. These are your two options -

Adam Milne, Pre-Xmas Plunket Wickets - YouTube

Hamish Bennett, 1/24 vs. ND - YouTube

I've got a hunch Milne would do reasonably well at Lord's if we wanted to take a a bit of a half-court shot in a match no-one expects a result from, jagging it in down the slope.

Some nice wickets in that lot, hope they decide to take one of them on the England tour and play in those warm-up matches they have before the first Test at Lords.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't take at least one of Milne, Henry, Wheeler. Obviously depends whether they are fit or not though. They rarely are unfortunately.

How long is McClenaghan out for? Side strain. He would be ahead of those guys on the pecking order, and also provide the variety pace/bounce.

Yeah, he'd be up there. Doesn't have quite the same results in the first-class stuff as the others, but he'd be worth a go at some stage in the next 12 months.

Nice to see the Tim Southee haters are back in full force, this place just isn't the same when he isn't copping all the blame.
