The "ground" refers to the grass (or dirt/weed/etc). I see your point though.
I've caught someone out when it touched the top of the grass but not the "ground". I claimed it.

Also if grass is part of the ground then it gets problematic when you have long grass.

No, I'd argue grass must definitely be part of the "ground". If a ball lands on a clump of grass and rests on it without touching anything else, would you pick it up and appeal for a catch?

Surely any T20 ton is better than that for the question you asked? When Razzaq began his innings there were 124 legal deliveries left potentially.

Yeah, I mean that was the one I was thinking of when I asked the question.

In T20Is it's easy, there are only 2 tons scored by non-openers, one by McCullum and one by Raina. Raina's started in the first over and McCullum's in the 4th.

Shane Warne scored the most runs (3154) in his career without making 100 (145 innings)

In terms of specialist batsmen, Chetan Chauhan generally opened the batting in his 68 test innings, but never made a ton.

Other specialist batsmen to have never made a ton include:

Mike Brearley*- 66 inns.

Bruce Laird- 40 inns.

*Although it could be argued that Brearley was a specialist captain rather than a specialist bowler....

Yeh, did consider him. Thought he was better described as an all rounder than a specialist batsman though.
Yeah, I would agree with that:)

Alick Bannerman was another, who perhaps in years played rather than innings would be up there
