what about Mishra?
A bit hard to argue that someone with 43 test wickets @ 43 a piece is clearly a superior pick to someone with 408 wickets at 32. Personally, never found Mishra anywhere close to test class, and whilst I can understand the logic of picking a younger unproven spinner over Harbhajan, I dont necessarily think that picking someone with his experience and skill on a raging turner was a catastrophic decision.

I was not advocating picking Mishra..I just wanted to know what people think of Mishra and whether he is considered a prospect... Personally for me the last great Indian spinner retired in 2008..since then all are blah.

Don't know how you guys find the time. These days I am so tired that I can't be bothered to watch any cricket.
there's just an insane amount of test cricket going on atm. If all matches last 5 days, we'll have at least a test a day until 10th Dec, followed by a 2 day break following which the madness begins again.

Love it.

on the flip side that is a problem.

fast bowlers are falling apart faster than anything because of the excessive amount of cricket being played, which is degrading the standard/quality of cricket.

i'd prefer to watch teams at full-strength at the expense of fewer games than the other way around

That's true as well I guess. 3 days apart from a test match is not enough for the players. Absolutely no time for preparation/recovery.

yeah the administrators need to address this asap.

there should be at least a 4 day break.

1 day of the 3-day break is wasted travelling from one to another.
that leaves you with 2 days to recover and prepare... wow

who'd want to be a fast bowler

I think that's what flibberty was suggesting but I don't really think it's the case tbh.
Not sure about that. There are major doubts even now Umesh may be fit for the 4th test so I really doubt they named the squad only for Kolkata just because of that.

I think the way things are going for India they are approaching a tipping point - if India lose at Eden Gardens, you'd have to imagine there will be some changes for Nagpur.

BTW, since everyone is now talking about dropping Broad, a savvy punter might find it worthwhile placing a few on him getting a stack in the next match, if past history is anything to go by

Plenty of yellow journalism on the Indian news channels, notably the English language ones. They say the selectors have 'rewarded non-performers' and 'not learnt from the humiliation'. What were these vultures expecting? A new-look top six, that doesn't even feature performer Pujara? Dropping Zaheer, who's looked in better touch than the spinners? Or the spinners, who have now been confirmed as frontline players? If the Indian media had any say in selection, we'd have a new team every game with at least three blokes dropped.

Are we making too much out of just one loss? Fair, the English have shown much better fight than the Indians in the latter stages of both poor tours, but this is a team that's lost the odd Test series at home, including one that cost Strauss his captaincy, and also could have ended his career (he called time after the series). The same Indian batting side played well in the first innings, on the same pitch, and can pull themselves up to do better across the series.

The spinners, though, deserve to be pulled out, and shouldn't play Test cricket for India for some time. One of them may have a different role to play, but not as a specialist bowler.

Haha yeah I was thinking that. People really do love exaggerating both ways with exactly how well or otherwise Broad is bowling, and he's the ultimate cricketing troll in that he bowls well or poorly just long enough to suck everyone in, and then proves them all wrong at once by turning his form around remarkably on the spot.
