Yes the classic Gambhiring is to state something like FJ did but when the match is evenly poised or only getting under way, in the hope the opposite of what you say happens, as though jinxing might work.

In this case England is staring down the barrel of a well deserved pizzling, so it's not really Gambhiring in the true sense of the word.

I don't think FJ is the Gambhiring type either, tbh.

Yes, it is going to be difficult. The point is that run-rate isn't a particular issue. They need to do whatever possible not to be losing wickets.

It doesn't matter what happens, as long as they have as few wickets down at tea as possible. They have to bat close to the day to win the match. Obviously they need to show some intent, but going at three an over for the first two sessions will be enough, leaving them 34 overs (considering slow over rates) to get 200.
don't see these two doing that tbh, they will be lucky to motor at 2.15 itbt

also am under the impression that your team ideally should be in a winning position to perform a classical gambhiring? the further in front the better

They're trying to be positive this morning hence the flash and misses but its gonna be hard with the conditions as they are.

I'd rather see them go down trying to win the game than mess around making it to 220 all out at 2.5rpo

Let's have a sweep on what time one or more of us England fans will be inclined to make a post including the words, "it's the hope that gets you."

England going on briskly here.

SA will start feeling the heat if these two get to seventy without getting out.

He averages 44 against South Africa - that's hardly "average to poor". And his best innings last summer against India was at Trent Bridge, when he came in after Cook had fallen cheaply - he did the "flattening". His battling in this series is largely the product of woeful batting above him in the order - England have been deep in the smelly brown stuff virtually every time he's come to the crease.
Yes I agree that that innings was in a delicate posiition, in hindsight England caned India in that match, but you're right, at the time it was a good innings.

I should say again that I think hes a good player, it's just when good attacks come round he seems to drop off more than most others, say compared to Pietersen and Trott or even Cook. A lot of centuries have come when the damage has already been done.

Taylor's aerodynamic helmet will ensure he get back to the dressing room quicker.

I know he's not out but I just thought of that and wanted to use it ASAP. Just cop it and move on.

Vernon 'bad series' Philander watch: 10 wickets @ 26.7

Best average for any bowler of either side with more than five wickets. Hope cricinfo and the haters are tasting it.
