I don't think he's close to test standard at the moment. That's ok though, heaps of players are like that when they first come into international cricket. Needs to go away and work on it.

Is it universally accepted that Compton would've been picked over Bairstow if he was fit for this test?

There's definitely promise there IMO, but yeah I agree.

Now Morkel vs. Bairstow. Could be fun...

Looks like grecian was right to be worried about failing to roll them then, this is a disaster atm. You feel as though we needed something special in the bowling to win this one.

Just didn't get into line with the ball, he probably has to play at that though with Morkel's angle.

Interesting little game this really, Bairstow now has the opportunity to forge ahead in a little mini-shootout between the two youngsters.

I wonder if South Africa would risk putting England back in if we somehow rolled them out for under a hundred? Doubt it though. Still far too much time left.
