Main point is Scaly was giving updates on Onions' figures and flibberty told him to take it to the County thread.

Onions then getting 9 and a runout just makes it all the more

Had a great day at Lords yesterday but didn't get back in time to see the highlights - could someone explain to me why Kallis was out, and then why De Villiers wasn't a bit later please?

Kallis is a mystery to all of us. De Villiers was umpire's call on whether it struck him in line, if it's the lbw I think you're referring to.

What was the atmosphere like in the crowd when Kallis was given out fred? Was everyone "wtf?" or did many people not know the rules and assume ump got it correct? Was there a sense that something controversial had happened?

Odd experience to be honest - I had grabbed an invite with a group of nine English non-cricket fans on a corporate jolly (who all stayed in the nursery pavilion after lunch getting pissed for the rest of the day) so they hadn't got a clue what was going on so I was trying to explain to them what was happening - as they'd already got well stuck in to our hosts budget that was even trickier than usual

.... and then we were sat amongst a bunch of saffers who clearly did know the game so at the same time I was trying desperately to cling to some basis on which he might be out, and explain that he was a **** anyway so who cared

But it was fun - everyone in the Mound Stand was totally bemused - and again later by the De Villiers one, though it was less complicated at that point cos my lot were in the bar by then

Meh, ball hitting glove that is not holding bat should be out anyway. STopid rule - adds nothing to the game apart from making it more complicated. Rod Tucker just very progressive with his decision making ;)
Well that's a strange opinion. Should it be out if we catch you after hitting your helmet?
No Spikey it should not, because that would not make any sense at all (don't make me roll-eyes you). Whereas off-the-glove sometimes being not out and sometimes out adds nothing to the game apart from endless debate about whether the batsman's ickle finger might still be just touching the bat handle and thus is counted as bat, or not. And causes confusion to Rod Tucker and other umpires and commentators who don't know rules.

Just count glove as bat all the time - if you're a batsman hitting the ball with a glove that's not holding the bat you've obviously made a mess of your shot anyway - not gonna feel sorry for you.

Well he was doing it every wicket.

I like Onions but wouldn't have picked him for this test, Finn on home ground was always my choice.

He will be quiet about Stokes/Kieswetter from the Lions/Aus A match though.

How is it part of the bat when it's not touching the bat?

how do you feel about it being off the sweatband if the sweatband is connected to the glove and glove is on the bat

One last thing about DRS, it was brought in to get rid of shockers like we saw in the Eng v SA match at Headingley in 98 but yesterday England used theirs on hunches against SA bats early in their innings. Would almost serve us right if a shocker is not given today and we have wasted the reviews on speculative ones.

You could argue that teams perhaps shouldn't lose a review when it is a marginal lbw decision that hits the stumps yet stays with the umpire, I wouldn't be upset if they got that pushed through but they do that then what next?

has there been a shocker made on field that DRS has saved us from this series? Can't remember one, but there have been 2 shockers made by the third ump in the last 2 tests

Didn't Cook? get given lbw but he had hit it or was that v West Indies?

Overturned straight away.

Smith yesterday immediately springs to mind..
I don't know that was a shocker, sure it was out, you can see how keeper and slips knew, but I wasn't sure live. Maybe I suck at watching, but the not out I thought was understandable.

Can't remember c00k one tbh
