The issue I can't get past is that, whilst it is a betrayal of confidence if the ECB has been briefing the meedjar based on private negotiations (although Pringle's Torygraph article Burgey linked to suggests there are plenty of other would-be Brutuses waiting to plunge the knife into KP's toga in Team England, aside from the management), his wanting to pick and choose his tests (& one doesn't have to be Nostradamus to work out which tests he'll want to miss and which he'll want to play) is a far bigger betrayal of his own teammates and, without wishing to be too sanctimonious, test cricket itself.

The parody Twatter account that KP has taken such umbrage at suggusts thus:

@KevPietersen24 said:
People who say Test Cricket is the pinnacle haven't played IPL in front 80,000, slapping Indian medium pacers about at a 141% strike rate.
I think it hurts so much because, as with all the best satire, it has a ring of verisimilitude.

Hope @Queen_UK doesn't give up her Monarchy because she thinks Prince Phillip is doing a parody account about her.

Exactly. Surely this is the crux of the issue. The leaks are obviously not great, but that doesn't justify what KP is doing. When the things being leaked are this, I just don't see how anyone can think KP is in the right.

Yeah, I think the leaks are a bit of a red herring in general. The reason Pietersen's Test career is in jeopardy is the fact that he wants to pick and choose which Tests he plays, and the ECB are quite rightly telling him he's not going to be able to. I definitely get the feeling the whole deal with the leaks and the parody account etc are merely Pietersen's attempted justification for leaving the game (if he does leave) over this original dispute, in which the ECB is 100% of the right side of AFAIC.

If we take KP's word for it then he's every right to be pissed off. Stuff like he might want to miss Tests vs New Zealand shouldn't be out in the public domain.

Why not? Because it might just expose him as a mercenary ****?

Because it's unprofessional and borderline unethical to leak in-house discussions to the ANYONE before they've been concluded. Let the discussions happen arrive to a decision between both parties and keep mum about it. Then KP would either be exposed as a mercenary when he doesn't play in the test but in the IPL or he won't be when he plays for Eng.

It's pretty much the same as your boss telling the entire company how unreasonable you're being when you're discussing something that should just stay between you, him \ her and the team.

This has happend at every club KP has played for. ECB can't do any more; Pietersen is as destructive off the field as he is on the field.
Yup, this points to the problem being KP, but if what KP says has a basis of truth to it then the ECB isn't coming out of this smelling like roses either.

Seems things in the dressing room are getting a bit ugly tstl. Interesting to see how it played out.

England batsman Kevin Pietersen believes team-mates behind Twitter account that is holding up new contract - Telegraph
It's funny in parts. And KP should be man enough to take it on the chin.

However if it is written by a team mate (now let's see, which England player is likeliest to get up to something like this? Surely not our less than 100% fit offie?) I can see why KP's unhappy about it.

And if so, given what we all know about KP's personality, is it really very professional to undermine the team by playing this sort of prank?

And if so, looking at recent series - we'd have lost 2-0 in SL and be two down to SA without his contributions, his vital 200 in the 1st India test, etc, etc - then this is a bit like Ringo complaining that Macca really was getting a bit full of himself circa Sgt. Pepper. If someone in the team doesn't like KP throwing his weight around, then try making some serious contributions on the filed mate.

Now that I've found myself defending KP I need to go and lie down for a while.

Haha, my instant reaction too. I note that Swann's twitter account is (apparently) protected now, too...

There are quite a few members of that team who contributed as much as Pietersen if not more to England's rise to the top of the rankings. And if he wasn't such an arse, they might have drawn the 1st test of this series.

A bit off topic, but during a rain delay in the first Test, Sky showed an episode of England's Foreign Legion, and Foxtel in Australia picked it up because they were taking Sky's cricket coverage. I actually don't think that was supposed to happen - Foxtel wouldn't actually have the rights to that show etc - but it really enjoyable. Has anyone caught any of them?

Hopefully Sky bring it out on DVD or something so I can buy it down the track.

Yeah unless Swann was breaking rules and tweeting during the first test on the fake account its not him.

I have a feeling Swanny is one of the ones that is mentioned as "actively disliking" him though.
