Saffies will probably have to bat last on a deck which will grip so they'll need to build a pretty decent lead if they want to win the game, which is a long way away atm.

Then they need to make much better use of the new ball than last time (vs. Peterson excepted , obv.). Someone (presumably Flower) needs to tell Broad not to waste it by bowling round the wicket into Smith's pads. And they need to start exerting some pressure. There's been too many freebies on offer.

It'll be interesting to see how many of them are up for the fight. In UAE, it wasn't very many.

I may have gone OTT but I didn't expect it to be perfect bowling conditions yesterday for them and not for us. Had it stayed sunny or England had more than 6 overs in the great bowling conditions then England would have been in a far better position than they currently are (not that this is a bad position as SA will still have to bat very well for 2 sessions just for parity)

Totally agree with this. I reckon England will fancy their chances if they have a 200 lead on day 5 as we all know Oval wickets can get very up and down late in the game as well as this looking like it will turn a lot more.

As you've said, the 2nd new ball will be absolutely vital. Unless we've made some serious inroads by tea, then we are in trouble and a 200+ target will be dreamland.
