What do you guys think about the winner of the All-star game getting home field advantage for the World Series? Certainly seems unfair some years.
It's highly unfair. It should go to the team with the best regular season record. But remember that prior to the ASG deciding the home field advantage, they used to simply rotate each year between leagues. So it's not any more unfair than it used to be.

Bit of a blow out today. Verlander with a pretty poor showing by his standards.

Yeah best regular season record would certainly be the most logical way to do it.

If they want to involve some sort of AL vs NL competition to decide it then perhaps they should base it on whichever league has the best record in interleague play overall.

Would've given Texas home field advantage for the last couple of years, perhaps they would have got the job done if that was the case!

Not at all. I thought he'd retire with the M's. His name wasn't even anywhere on the trade rumor mill. So shocking.

Will be really interesting to see how he goes and what role he's given. If he can be anything like he was for the first 10 years he'll be incredibly valuable but if he plays like he has the last couple of seasons they'd be better of with Jones and Ibanez.

Being a Rays fan at the deadline sucks every year. James Shields going here, going there, :(.

Pretty shocking about Ichiro. Not sure anybody on the planet saw that coming.

One thing the Rangers have largely avoided in their run to the WS the last two years is injuries, especially injuries to the starting rotation. Well we can say that no more. Up until last week, 3/5 of our starting rotation was on the DL. Now we find out that our number 1 starter, Colby Lewis, is done for the year. Our number 5, Feliz, is still making rehab starts and apparently he's not doing so well. So as of now, our potential playoff rotation is Matt Harrison/Derek Holand/Yu Darwish/Roy Oswalt. Major Panic. I'm willing to give away the farm for a Hamels/Lee/Grienke. Our window of opportunity is now, have to go all in.

Sounds like Lee is more likely than Hamels at this stage. If you can't win with Lee, Harrison, Holland, Darvish and Oswalt then there is something seriously wrong.

I would love to have Lee back. Though I think you're overrating Oswalt. He'd definitely be the weak link in that potential rotation.

He's certainly not the same pitcher he was back in the day but most teams would kill to have a guy like that as the number 5 in their rotation. And he's got postseason experience too. Didn't you guys pretty much pass on CJ because he'd proved he wasn't up to pitching in those situations?

My concern with Oswalt is not only his deteriorating performance over the past few years, but also his creaky back. He's going to miss his next start because of it. You never know when that's going to shut him down for the year.

As for CJ, the Rangers let him walk due to a variety of reasons. The playoff performances were a big part of it. I know you're just making a point about post season chops and not comparing the two, but I would still take the in-his-prime CJ over Oswalt.

Yeah that's fair enough. Although when Oswalt pitches a complete game win to take the World Series 4-1 over the Reds I'm sure you'll be quite happy to have picked him up.

Are you blokes buying or selling? Surely you're still well in the race, especially with two wild cards now
This is the Rays, they're always selling. Even if we had a ten game lead we wouldn't be buying, just staying put. Payroll of <50m a season, and it will stay that way. As soon as Longoria's contract is up he'll be gone, Price too. Shields will be traded either now or in the offseason. Once Madden goes the team will go down the tubes. Amazing front office and coaching staff, cheap owner with **** fanbase with no money coming in. They'll be lucky if the team is still there in 5 years.
