True. But I think the funeral may have taken place yesterday, which won't have helped at all. It's going to be a long couple of months tbh - they'd probably prefer to call it a day until 2013.

I bet they would, you can tell that as a team they're missing that 10% you need at this level to compete and it's effecting all the players 1 to 11. They're obviously trying their best but the mind set of the team is just not right and it seems to show more in how the team bats.


Good to see my team chalk up another good win, side seems full of confidence atm and Dizzy's got them playing a good brand of Twenty20.

Kinda surprised with Chris Adams attitude with Ramps post Maynard death. Before his death I thought it was probably correct to phase him out - he really didn't warrant a place in the team and although the youngsters were inconsistent they had potential and were positive in their performance and their outlook on the game.

Post Maynard's death I think Adams should have gone more experienced and brought back Ramps, and try and rely on the more experienced guys of Tremlett, Batty, Kartik, De Bruyn, Ramps, Davies etc. I got the impression that the younger players were all pretty close and the last couple of years a big group have been developing and coming through with Maynard as one of the leaders. Something like this especially for the younger guys who were close to Maynard I guess is obviously shocking and can be hard to deal with. The older guys probably didn't socialise too much with Maynard and are probably more able to deal with the situation.

When so much of Surrey's game before the Maynard death was based on vibrancy, youth and vitality it must take a lot to come back and play the same way. That's why another option may have been to bring back the gnarled old pro's with their experience and try and take thre pressure of the young guys. But I'm not in the dressing room so I can only speculate on the approach of the coach.

It does seem strange that they discarded him just as the pitches are starting to become more batsmen friendly in this part of the season when even with his form he'd be likely to cash in.

The south is expected to escape the worst of the deluge so I have high hopes for Surrey - Middx, Kent - Essex and Hants - Sussex going ahead, or at least getting some play. Surrey are out of the competition now so the pressure is off to some extent and they may play better as a result.

Have tickets for Lancs-Yorks tonight but not expecting to get anywhere near the ground. A shame as the redevelopment has gone on apace since I was there last, the two double decker stands look complete, the new players/media stand is well on the way to completion and they have started work on the pavilion.

Yeah, the forecast for London isn't a complete disaster tonight so the Surrey game should go ahead. I hope so anyway, because I have tickets for it - it'll be my son's annual 2020 trip.

I doubt whether pressure to go through was the problem in recent games. Bottom line is that our batting isn't very good, especially without Maynard and RHB Throw in their mental state and you can see why the youngsters are struggling badly. My wife works with the mum of one of the Surrey boys, and she says they're completely shot right now. Games in each of the two days after Maynard's funeral is far from ideal. Not that anything could have been done about that of course.

The only thing that would make a competitive match tonight is KP playing a blinder, you'd think.

Agree with that, and I also think the club should have allowed him a farewell game - although he hasn't played a T20 in two years, today's game against Middlesex would have been perfect - although he may have declined the offer. It would have made sense anyway with RHB missing for him to play, maybe even as captain.

Thought pretty much the same when it came out that they told him that his services weren't required for the rest of the season. Like you I'd have said Ramps would have been a good mature head in and around the club house, who will have had experience of this kind of thing before during his long career and like you say he could have taken some of the responsibility & pressure off the younger guys.

Even leaving a side Tom's passing, he deserved a final first class game or a final game of some sort so the fans can say thanks and goodbye to the bloke. All in all pretty poor handling by Surrey but they must feel differently.
