Has Narine had three tests to prove himself like Bairstow?
Because 3 innings make or break a test player. 8-)

You talk about all the lions programs but you have to remember these guys are still very young, and nowhere near their peaks yet. Bairstow is developing his game and just because he didn't do particularly well in a test when he's 22, it doesn't mean he can't perform in a few years time, or even tomorrow.

I appreciate what WW is saying about Narine and there are some excuses for him

However, I wouldnt have been too critical if he had bowled a couple of long hops every over IF he had shown something else (e.g. guys not picking him but being saved by the slowness of the wicket or wrong length, etc)

But there was none of that

To me, it was like hearing about a young tearaway and then witnessing him bowl at 130 with absolutely nothing to indicate that he could bowl more quickly
He was blowing his hands constantly so clearly the cold was getting to his bowling imo, and he did spin it both ways and show a straighter one which nearly got a LBW, got great flight and turn with the edge he got off Bell aswell,

At the end of the day he just couldn't overcome the circumstances, i'm not too worried yet, but i will be if he isn't his brilliant self against NZ at home where he'll be much more comfortable and have no excuses.

Well if you can't handle a short ball then whether it's three innings or thirty you're gonna get found out!! .

Yeah, nowt proved about Narine, the cold conditions were never going to suit. Yet still he's done nothing at first-class level, so wish people would stop hyping him, it's getting silly now.

Anyway, Bopara can bowl now can't he? so that will at least stop us seeing Trott's filth any more.

Of course they could just pick Trego, form player for a number 6:ph34r:

TBF to Ravi (the one from Essex one rather than the tubby Trinidadian) certain quarters tend to talk down his three consecutive tons on the grounds they were scored against the Windies. Whereas now Bairstow hasn't made it to twenty in three innings versus the same oppo...

I'm a long way from a Ravi fan, but if he was the next in line before he pulled his side his form dictates he should still be, given JB has failed to grasp the nettle.

EDIT: Actually think it's four innings for Bairstow, including his 0*

8-) Yes because players don't improve as they mature do they, they're the same at 22 as 32. it's actually funny hearing you slate Bairstow while coming out with all kinds of excuses for Narine, poor stuff tbh.

Yeah, it's getting a bit farcical now, I wanted Bairstow to do well, but Bopara has scored runs and bowl. He is in form too.

Problem for Compton is England seem to be using that last batting sport for potential long term prospects, which he isn't really. Probably the best man for the job though.

Bopara should play honestly, though I can't help but feel he's turning into a Ramprakash.

Would still like to see Stokes come through but with all the twenty20 coming up it's hard to see him making a real case before the SA series.

You're basing this assumption on what? The evidence of one innings? And as Jacknife rightly pointed out things like that can be improved on, I even think he improved in the week between tests to be honest, with regards to playing the short ball.

While I kind of feel it's the right thing to do, we've got 2 huge series coming up, one against a quality bowling attack, the other in conditions we've really struggled to make runs in. For that I think they should decide which batsmen they think is most likely to make runs in those tests, and pick them.

I'm not slating him, i'm just telling it how i see it, at least Narine has genuine excuses, what does Bairstow have? the english media have been bigging him up but it was all on false hope imo, Taylor was better than him in the Lions game, Narine hasn't even completed his first innings yet and if he takes four of the last five wickets would that change things? of course it would, that's why it's naive to compare Bairstow's failure to Narine's first spell today!! 8-) .
