Was a good days play, shame there is no chance of a result though having lost the opening 2 days. Onions bowled well and was the pick of the bowlers, probably sneaked ahead of Finn as reserve though if Broad got injured you would go for Finn on height grounds.

Samuels played beautifully, hope this is the start of a few years of him batting like this, stylish to watch and got some good wisecracks in his interviews and on the pitch. The game needs more characters like him.
This is a key point, I do think England will want like-for-like, probably why both have got a game here.

Not sure about others being better even potentially, the fact is you won't know until they play Tests, I'm a big fan of Woakes and Brooks, but there's no doubt they're both rightly down the pecking order.
Not seen enough of Brooks, I like Woakes and he is probably a better long term bet than Bresnan as the 3rd seamer/number 8 bat. Thing is though bresnan rarely lets us down and Woakes might just be an unlucky guy who doesn't get a chance when in any other period of time in the last 30 years he would have been the opening bowler in all probability.

I feel Onions is hugely overated on here - given too much credit for a decent spell when some very ineffective ones are quickly forgotten (maybe a case of absence causing a selective memory).
That's pretty far off the mark. What's been impressive about Onions has been his consistency, being on the spot every spell.

If this had been the start of a 5 day match you would have taken bowling a side out for around 300 on a flat track with your 2 main bowlers putting their feet up. Nice to have 6 pace options (including Tremlett) averaging under 31 with the ball. Probably not had that since days of uncovered pitches if ever.

Just a shame there probably isn't time to make a proper match of it with the chance of more dodgy weather to come.

Tino batting well here, nice cameo this.

I personally would like to see them bat sensibly to the follow on target and then go for it. After all, game can't really be lost once we pass the follow on.

Been a bit shambolic by England but good fun really. Doesn't hurt as much seeng the number 11 score quickly when the series is won and you know he will bowl crap anyway.
