The ATG World XI's game

I think I'm going to blend together category two and three, it will un-complicate things. In the voting for openers, we have Langer leading with Cook and Slater just behind. Noble and Waugh are the leaders in two and three respectively.

I've just realised to my horror that Sylvers has yet to figure in this - I'll leave Jack Gregory in for this team but would venture to suggest he should be added next time

Sorry, you are correct.
No worries kyear. In the meantime, I came here to close the polls and found out that there's draws everywhere - a three-way tie for the openers and a two-way for one of the extra positions - so I'll give it a few extra hours.

Agreed, Noble definitely deserves a slot in a squad.

More English than Aussies, and only 10 Indians/Pakistanis. Seems unexpected to me.
I thought it was interesting too. I should also note that there has not been a single team without an English player in it so far.

Approximate percentages of all selected players/teams without a player from that nation

England: 26.62% and 0
Australia: 25.32% and 1
West Indies: 16.88% and 2
South Africa: 12.99% and 3
Pakistan: 6.49% and 5
India: 6.49% and 6
New Zealand: 2.60% and 10
Sri Lanka: 1.95% and 11
Zimbabwe: 0.65% and 13

South Africa being double India and Pakistan seems quite high. I know its not a fair way to judge, but Pakistan have played the same number of Tests as SA and India have played more.

- No Pakistan spinner or keeper in the first 14 teams
- Only 1 Indian spinner in the first 14 teams, in contrast 6 English spinners and Swann is now no. 7.

Swann the only English spinner picked post-covers?

I guess Underwood straddled them. As I said, think there's been a split of the votes for the Indian spinners.

I don't think there has been a paceman from the subcontinent who isn't from Pakistan, either (Kapil counted as an all-rounder).

Yeah its just annoying seeing a split when the Indian spinners get beaten by a bloke who averages over 40 with the ball against two strong batting lineups Australia and India..

Dev is the only quick from India, SL and lol Bangladesh. Realistically though, apart from Srinath, Vaas and Zaheer, you wouldn't really expect any would you.

Highlights how many great quicks are available given Srinath, Vaas and Zaheer have some serious competition from other bowlers in that 28-32 bowling average range.

It does also highlight the perceived importance of a spinner being able to contribute with the bat though. Because the spinner may find circumstances where he is not required in parts of the match, you can't afford to carry a passenger. Most of the Indian spinners were poor batsmen, so you're taking the risk of them not giving you anything in a pace dominated match.

Swann I assume? And no, obviously there haven't been any genuine ATG bowlers from SL and Bangladesh, but I thought Zaheer and Srinath might have featured somewhere. Still one team to go, though.
